grinch1989 0 #1 Posted March 26, 2009 The PTO lever on my 312-8 will pop back up on its own (disengage) unless I tighten the adjustment on the end of the rod. I don't like making this really tight as I feel it strains the PTO bearing and it really should not have to be that tight. My lever does not go down a full 90 degrees when engaged (maybe 87 degrees), however my dad's GT1100 lever goes down a full 90 degrees, never pops back up, nor does it have to be really tight. Is this the nature of the 312-8 or is something wrong somewhere? Question 2, I am trying to level my 48" deck on my 312-8 (with larger than stock tires - 8" front). I recently restored my deck, so I don't remember what hole the rod (trunnion?) went into on the rear axle. there is a smaller front hole and a larger rear hole. It seems the front is up too high using the smaller hole (even after turning that nut), ran out of time last night to try the rear hole. Thoughts about which hole to use and the best way to level a deck? :omg:
past7971 0 #2 Posted March 26, 2009 On your PTO question--Check your drive belt pulley on engine. Is it up against block or spaced out about 1/4" from block face? If it has slid back against block it will cause this. On question #2--mine are in hole closest to axle.
Duff 206 #3 Posted March 26, 2009 Grinch, I had the very same problem develop with my 312-8 just at the end of the mowing season last year and didn't have time to troubleshoot it. Paul, as soon as I pull it out of storage I'll check to see if the pulley has slipped. In the meantime, have others had this problem, and could there be other causes in case we find out our pulleys are spaced properly? Thanks to all for replies, Duff :omg:
grinch1989 0 #4 Posted March 26, 2009 Thanks for the replies guys, but as Duff said, I am also interested if anyone else has this PTO lever problem. Keep the thoughts coming!
Horse Fanatic 51 #5 Posted March 28, 2009 This is a long shot, but if you've been having this problem ever since you put the tractor together, are you sure you have the spring attached to the lever just inside the hood stand connected to the right spot? I recall when I was putting a tractor together once, my PTO lever wouldn't stay down until I found the correct spot to put the spring. By the way, I saw your tractor in a different post, it looks real nice! Glenn

Thanks for the kind words about my restore :omg:
