jeffrylester 1 #1 Posted December 1, 2018 I'm not much of a mechanic, but my 520HC (1988) only clicks when I turn the key. Red Light comes on and it clicks once. New battery, spark plugs and I cleaned all of the connections to the starter. Do I need a new starter? Current starter is the original one. Thanks. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

There are a lot of safety switches and other connections along the way to the starter as well as ground connections that could be a problem. Also, a "NEW" battery can be a problem on occasion, have it load tested at an auto parts store.
