Dan693 510 #1 Posted October 29, 2018 Thought I should get a little advise from the elders.....Onan 14 HP single that exhausts out of the bottom of the head. I'm scrapping the old can type muffler and fabbing a new header to let it flow better. The issue is some oil is collecting in the old muffler. Not a ton but enough to make it smoke some on startup. It seems to clear out after running for a minute.. My feeling is worn rings....it has about 600 hrs on it but not worked hard.....only mowing. Not sure how valves would cause this. Since I have the hood and muffler off I'm thinking maybe hone the cylinder and install a new set of rings. Any thoughts on this issue and any products I could add to the oil to maybe free up the current rings? I probably could live with it but I'm just not built that way lol. Thanks in advance! MalMac 1,328 #7 Posted November 2, 2018 Are you sure you got a Onan there. If it’s a 14hp in a Wheel Horse it’s a Kohler. I ageee with the rest if your getting that much oil. Also could be a crank vent. When the crankcase builds up pressure it has to relieve it self somewhere. With a Kohler it can come from anywhere.
