'60 Suburban Gets New Power

I got tired of freeing a stuck intake valve on the unknown origin 5 hp Briggs so for a $100 I got a 212 cc Predator in there now. had to raise tin 1" in order to get 1/8" clearance between engine and tin above it, + 1/8" between steering shaft and intake (on one side) and exhaust (on the other side) and ignition wire (just under shaft), by moving bulkhead that supports steering shaft about 1" forward. Then had to take steering pinion / rack assembly apart, tweak, lube and reassemble then adjust a few times to get it working smooth.

 Absolutely love this rig now. Depending on rpm and how I release clutch, it will do wheelies now. No plans for further mods besides finding a smallish York rake to fit, and / or getting an old snow blade that I have attached.

 Edit - not sure if I mentioned before but I did drain and 2x flush the goo out of trans and added new gear oil.

Very nice, clay you didn’t cut the hood. The tractor has a nice patina.

Nice tractor hopefully you can find period correct engine for it, sadly alot of good tractors get cut up and hack jobs to stuff these engines in

good swap on that, you will probably have more fun with that , leaving it in that set up. on that rear end drain, I have found using, atf fluid to be a very good flush  agent. the 312-8 I picked up , responded very well, to its trans clean out, good luck , pete

Yea.... no need to or desire to cut the perfect hood. I love the patina as well. Wouldn't dream of painting this.

I did use atf to flush. Took a couple times to get it properly clean.

I did have a linkage designed out of 1/4" x 1" plywood slats to figure out using the existing ratcheted arch and handle to lift the plow prior to engine swap. Now that new engine took up more forward space I'll have to redesign a bit, then fab from steel.

I too, am impressed with the fact that you engineered a way to fit the engine in instead of Smashing the outside metal around.

Looks like some Christmas’ed it up a bit in the rear though?  Maybe thT’s something that could stand a little wet sanding?

 P.O. mentioned that they painted fenders a long time ago. thT's?? Is that a mis-spell or abbreviation I don't get?
