formariz 12,040 #1 Posted March 16, 2009 Curiously enough I don't see too many 653 tractors around. Is it perhaps because most people opted to purchase a 753 instead since it had a Kohler engine?
Suburban 550 28 #2 Posted March 16, 2009 I don't know how scarce the 653's are, but yours is one of the nicest original tractors I've seen.
Rollerman 290 #3 Posted March 16, 2009 Personally I've seen quite a few 653's....probably more than 753's Several were repowers though. I'm not meaning this as a slam to Tecumsehs, they are a good running engine if maintained. But if there not they have a short life....a tractor with a non running engine also has a short life & gets hauled away. The Kohlers ran longer in worse shape or with poor maintainance....so you probably see more original 753's around currently. See what I'm saying? Your 653 is an exceptional tractor & a great example of one that was cared for meticulously.
formariz 12,040 #4 Posted March 16, 2009 Stephen That makes a lot of sense. Maintenance brings up another issue I have been trying to decide.Although my 653 runs extremely well the carburetor bowl is the type with the small spring loaded fuel drainer. A little fuel seeps through it over a period of time.Since the carburetor has never been removed I am reluctant to do so. It probably could use a cleaning. Perhaps just remove the bowl to correct the small leak?
