How much is this wheel horse and attachments worth

Recommended Posts

 I Ran across a round hood 65_ today that had a reel mower, snow blower and a newer kohler with the bottom mounted starter. The tractor was decently painted, and the attachments were original (not restored), but appeared operational. What is this package worth? They were asking $450obo

I beileve that the last year for the roundhoods were 1964. If it is roundhood then it is a 64 or earlier. Not sure on the value. What model, engine size? I think there is a reel mower on ebay right now so that may help you with the value of that.

I believe he means 653 or 654, Steve.

What it's worth is not based on what something sells for on ebay either. What it's worth is whatever steel scrap is selling for per pound times how many pounds it weighs.

It's actual value is how much the buyer is willing to give the seller - period.

Do I think that's a good price for the lot? It very well could be, but without seeing it in person it would be impossible to give a legitimate answer. (pictures hide too much or just can't show everything that needs to be seen)

A 65_ (or any)roundhood with "newer Kohler with bottom mount starter" kind of caught my attention. These 65_ models originally came with Tecumseh's and the one's that did come with electric start Kohlers had starter/generators that mounted higher. Could not use a newer electric starter without doing something(?) with battery because of clearance issues. So......what else has been changed or modified?

Hound Dog......just because a seller says it's a 65...does not

necessarily make it a 65. I have found over the past year

that owners/sellers sometimes just don't know what they have.

They do not know about looking up the build tag model number

(different that decal model number).

So you need to ask for the build tag model and serial number.

On the earlier ones (I think) there was only a serial number.

build tag was usually located on the dash tower under the console.

And then moved to the side of the tower a little later and then

moved again to under the seat on the very latest.

Get that number and folks here can help you find out what exactly

it is or what it isn't.

Without pictures this is like shooting in the dark

and Even with pictures it difficult to price these tractors...these tractors sell all over the price range..So my best advise is if you like it buy it or make a offer.

Went back and looked at it today It's a 552. As far as the engine it's an 8 h.p. K181S. The engine fits under the hood real nice and the battery is under the seat. I was considering buying it just for the implements and selling the tractor at the show. I know the snow blowers were going for $250 on ebay, so I figured the two are worth at least $400. The owner also showed me a second reel mower that'll come with it that you pull behind and is wheel driven - pretty sure it isn't wheel horse, but is cool looking.

I also looked at a C-195 today (w/ deck) the guy was asking $800 - might have to wait on that one!

After a few new knots on the head from the ol lady I went and picked up the 552. I just could'nt let this one go being it came with the attachments. This one was the most expensive, but best looking one I've ever bought. It's also the only one the actually ran when I got it! I got him down to $400 so I don't think I did too bad - can't get em all for fifty bucks, right? I'll try and get some pis before the weekend.

Sounds like a good deal. This crappy economy is bringing them out of the woodwork, eh? Pics of the reel mower would be good. They're pretty scarce. Wheel Horse offered them for a number of years. A couple of guys here have some. but there aren't many that have survived being scrapped. I think they had them made by two different companies. Roxy Bonner is one and I can't think of the other.
