Horse Fanatic 51 #1 Posted March 14, 2009 I did a search but could not find the answer to my question. I have some play in the steering support where the steering shaft slides into it on my 520 H. While I have it apart I'd like to improve it. From looking at others I've had apart, there is some sort of bushing in the hole, but the Toro parts viewer does not show a replacement bushing. What is the best way to tighten this up besides locating an NOS support or having a custom bushing made? Thanks, Glenn
Horse Fanatic 51 #2 Posted March 14, 2009 I degreased the tractor and was suprised to find this: So it looks like I need to replace it anyway. Are new ones still available from Toro? Thanks, Glenn
Teddy da Bear 11 #3 Posted March 14, 2009 Ummmmmm....that condition will tend to make loose steering. I have loose steering on my C-195. Got to look into it.... The P.O. was so stingy on parts...he only put half the bolts back on it. So I will need to really get into it see if something is missing.
Horse Fanatic 51 #4 Posted March 14, 2009 Suprisingly, because the break was jagged, it stayed firmly in place when bolted to the frame. There was a part number written on it with a sharpie so it looks like it was replaced once already. That would explain why there was no slop where the steering column went into it and the play where the steering shaft goes in wasn't too bad. Oh well, it's junk now. Time to find a new one. TT-(Moderator) 1,162 #5 Posted March 14, 2009 88-2710-03 is the Toro P/N and I'm not sure if it comes with the new #6397 bushing or not. You're looking at $60 to $65 to purchase it new, or you might be able to find a decent used one by asking here or checking ebay, etc. (I might even have one, but wouldn't know where to begin looking right now. ) There should be plenty of them out there. Here's one that's worse than yours :
rick 255 #6 Posted March 15, 2009 That part on my C-111 has been welded, both sides had been broken in the same places as the pieces shown....my man does better welding, but it seems to be holding alright in spite of the bubble gum weld. I believe mine was broken in the attempt to remove the steering wheel. There appears to be a replacement steering wheel on the shaft, held on with a bolt instead of a roll pin. Maybe you guys can weld your steering supports, too.
eibbed 63 #7 Posted March 15, 2009 Glen, I hope I'm not butting in, but my 702 bottom steering support; Wheelhorse Part number 4412 borke off in the same place as yours. I found a good bottom steering support in the barn that has 109733 stamped on it. I think it is off of a B-115, but I'm not positive. Would you, Terry, or anyone else know if this part would work for either of us? Thanks, Dave 551 702 604 WH Aerator WH 2 wheel cart
Horse Fanatic 51 #8 Posted March 15, 2009 I looked on Parts Tree (never used it before) and saw them available for $56.23. I'm going to get a new one. I might try and weld the broken one for the heck of it to have as a spare. Thanks for the help. Glenn
Horse Fanatic 51 #9 Posted March 15, 2009 Eibbed, That part number (109733) was the old part number for the support. The number TT gave is for the same part just an updated number.
