I have a model 701 i see the wiring diagram is different than my 753. I restored the 701 all new wire ect. the orig switches were there.when i got it all done.  amp meter showed it was charging everything was working great After 20 min of riding around it drained the battery dead. re charged the battery same thing. just sitting did not discharge the battery. Only drains the battery when running.put new voltage regulator. Still drains the battery when running. I have repaired these starter generator systems dozens of times never had this problem. Can anybody help.??????

The 551 and 701 use a unique starter solenoid. One large solenoid stud is identified with BAT because it feeds the coil in the solenoid. The small terminal is then grounded by the start push button to activate the solenoid.

Can't see how it could cause your problem but it is opposite to the 753.
