jeepdave 8 #1 Posted September 8, 2018 (edited) New member here who knows nothing about these things aside from them being red, so please be kind. I finally had a chance to take a closer look at my Charger 12 project and noticed the oil drain plug was a pipe that came from the engine with a cap at the end. Is this a factory setup? If not, I am guessing it was added to make oil changes easier and cleaner. I'd like to keep it original, but at the same time I am lacking confidence in the cap and am worried about it possibly vibrating off while in use. I was able to gently remove it with a pair of vice grips so that is a start, but the thing doesn't even have a square head for a socket... Thanks guys. cleat 4,984 #5 Posted September 9, 2018 A lot of later engines come from the factory this way (all of my Onans did). So long as the cap is a proper pipe cap and tightens up well then you should have no problem.

Sarge 3,462 #7 Posted September 9, 2018 Some automotive parts stores have an extensive cabinet of brass fittings - they should have a hex headed brass cap available or you can find them at a good home improvement/hardware store. Most Kohlers use a 3/8"NPT pipe. Sarge
