formariz 12,040 #1 Posted March 10, 2009 Removed fuel pump on a spare k-161 for inspection and cleaning and noticed that it does not have the mechanical lever I see in all diagrams and photos of this type pump. Is this one perhaps vacuum operated or has the lever fallen into engine? Cas
BadDad 1 #2 Posted March 10, 2009 Man that sounds familiar. When I was doing my 855 with a K181s all of the pictures had that laver on it. The 1st thing I though was it fell off. But I made some calls & found that I had what they call a pulse vacuum pump. I was still not able to find the rebuild kit for it, luckily I was able to clean mine with carburetor cleaner & get it to work. I do hope yours is like mine, & I hope you are able to fine a kit to rebuild yours. Good luck
formariz 12,040 #3 Posted March 11, 2009 Thanks Donnie I hope that is what I have. I just can't find any literature referring to that type of pump.I am tempted to remove the oil pan to see if it is there.
BadDad 1 #4 Posted March 11, 2009 Well Cas I know these people helped me a lot: Manufactures Supply, 1-800-825-8563 http://www.mfgsupply.com I called them gave them the model number, & the spec number with that they even sent me a fax diagram of my fuel pump. Before you take it apart you might give them a call. I do hope this helps you out. Donnie
Horse'n Around 22 #5 Posted March 13, 2009 Cas, I ran into the same thing on the K161 that is on my 702 last week. Mine has a vacuum fuel pump.It had me scratching my head for a second till I noticed that there was no place on or in the housing for a mechanical arm to piviot on to begin with and also the diaphram (sp?) has no metal in the center of it for the lever to contact. I can only assume that if the pump was mechanical the diaphram would have metal where the lever would contact it so it wouldnt put a hole thru it.The diaphram was caked with nasty old varnish and disks(valves) were stuck tight closed so I cleaned the whole thing really good and put it all back together and it is working like a champ. Boy Im happy about it too, when I saw how much a pump costs I nearly passed out! John
