engineer 4 #1 Posted August 2, 2018 (edited) How hard is it to find an engine to replace the B&S 402417 that originally came with machine? Still need some diagnosis on engine to see if repairable but never a bad idea to look ahead. Looking machine over it appears the engine sits on a plate bolted to the frame rails which should make mounting for replacement fairly doable. Every repair shop and B&S say no engine replacement. It's all about time, money and patience. Many of us have done non stock swaps of various engine/tractors. Parts ARE out there. If a repair shop says no... They are only thinking new direct replacement. We have a great vendor for new and used everything in @A-Z Tractor.

Try "Small Engine Warehouse".com they offer a 23HP V-twin "kit' for the 520H opposed twin cylinder Onan (it takes more v-twin HP to be comparable to the old opposed twins power) the kit would be as near complete to swap without headache vs trying to figure it on your own and obviously your local repair shops have no desire either, but this will set you back some 💰, if you search "Predator" swap on here some have already done the 22hp v-twin Honda clone into 520s and other Wheel Horse, Jeff. Sparky-(Admin) 23,106 #4 Posted August 2, 2018 There is no reason to stick with the exact same motor. This is my GT1600. Someone before me swapped in a Kohler Magnum 10. 3
