General Wheel Horse questions

Recommended Posts

HVL

Hello,

I just bought a 1979 Wheel Horse B-111 and I'm looking for any information on getting parts. Specifically I'm looking to replace the belts and possible a pulley wheel since the previous owner said one was bent and the belt after awhile jumps off. Also is there a way to drain the transmission and refill it, it kinda hard shifting gears.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Hank

You should be able to get what you need at local Toro dealer. To lookup parts go to https://lookup3.toro.com/partdex/index.cfm?xCaller=Toro and enter your model number. There were two B-111's in 1979---a 4-speed and a 6-speed. For 4-speed use 91-11BP01 or 6-speed use 92-11BF01 for model number. Thoses were zeros in model numbers. After you find part numbers, you can go to http://www.rcpw.com/Oem_Parts.htm then click on Toro, enter part number, and find out availablity/price. For belts, you can click on "aftermarket available" if shown and it will give you belt size. Check your transmission to be sure but I believe those used aluminum Peerless "sealed" transmissions that you cant drain/refill.

 Hank.....glad you could join us!

Another site that I like better is www.partstree.com

There you can do general searches as well as plugging

in your model number off your build tag.

Just click on the red Toro logo and not the Toro contractor logo.

When the screen updates....put your model number (not B-111)

on the line under it and hit return. It should show you a parts

list and availability, isometric assembly drawings as well as a

maintainance link.

I have never heard of a tranny that was sealed....

I would like to see a picture of that.

Yup, sealed no oil inside just grease. Then the grease gets stuck to outside edges and not on gear face then a little moisture and the weird noises start. You would have to unbolt the case, clean it out, and relube then try to get together again. Or use a gear lube and pour in trrough shift detent hole, then reassemble. Or just buy a new one from Surplus Center $170.00 roughly.

Oh yes and

Wow.....

Well once I dissassemble and clean it out?

I would drill and tap a n.p.t on top and

bottom so I could fill and drain it like a

normal tranny.

if it uses grease, couldn't you drill and tap a hole in the case for a grease fitting? then pump some grease in it? just a thought.

The only reason I took mine completly apart was to unstuck the gears, then seen the mess and moisture. Cleaned everything and used Lucus gear lube. TDB that would work wouldn't it drill and tap plug holes in. By just pumping in more grease it would work but you don't know inside condition, but it is an easy fix to try for now.
