Buzz 502 #1 Posted March 8, 2009 I put this here because I was wondering if most of you feel that this add is legit. If it is, and can be documented, this might be the rarest horse of all. Here's the link to ebay, I'm not involved in any way with this ad, and not ridiculing the seller, just wondering if it's legit http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=110360306774
Rollerman 290 #2 Posted March 8, 2009 I can't see it being a prototype?...I'd think the RJ25's were more of a prototype? But probably no doubt it may have been a demo. Per say the Martino book & other stories/sources it sounded like Cecil travelled around to promote his product, find dealers that would carry his product & prove it's usefullness. He's honest about the steering wheel & deck...items like the fenders were an option & the brake "kit" didn't come along till later. All in all I think the seller represented the tractor well. formariz 12,040 #3 Posted March 9, 2009 I questioned the seller if he had any documentation substantiating his claims. I received a dry "no". Like many others he neglected to post that communication on the auction. Only what is convenient to make the sale. Cas
past7971 0 #4 Posted March 9, 2009 Hey Buzz!!! Yeah I seen it and lean towards Rollerman's reply. I am almost afraid to ask what his reserve is.....be interesting to see how high it bids up.
evanloock 236 #5 Posted March 9, 2009 This isn't even an early RJ-35. The early 1955 models had the angle iron gas tank support and cable steering. The prototype RJ's had a fiberglas hood and cast aluminum steering wheel. This tractor looks to be a 56 model as it appears to have the Clinton 1200-2184 engine (paper air filter/does not have the Schnacke starter). The mower deck is a RMR-3261 made in 1961 NOT 1957. I also wonder if the "later model wheel" was what was actually on the tractor making it a late 56 or early 57 model. I never liked the reproduction of those steering wheels because of the fraud that could be perpetuated by sellers regarding the actual age of the RJ-35 they were selling. The seller appears to have no idea what he is talking about or he maybe intentionally misrepresenting the tractor. Caveat emptor!
ol550 830 #6 Posted March 9, 2009 I'll just give my thoughts. I bought a tractor from him a couple of years ago just shortly after he bought it. I think I even saved some of the ebay pictures from the seller. After spending a few hours talking to him, he is a very trusting person that is representing it as it was to him. He was advised during the auction that it wasn't what it was being sold as but he just wanted it to go with his other Horses. I do remember the sellers claim as being a prototype was the hand painted hood logo. I do have a couple of pictures I took of it if anyone needs. linen beige 15 #8 Posted March 9, 2009 Could this have maybe been a '56 model demonstrator delivered in late '55?
Guest fireman #9 Posted March 16, 2009 The auction eneded at this thing brought $1500. Did somebody here buy it?
