Carb breather on C-175

Recommended Posts

 i was using the C-175 the other day and noticed the enging running rough and black smoke every once in a while, a puff here and there, had to use the choke to make it run right, thought i had dirt in the gas line somewhere or bad filter, got to looking at it and put my hand on the breather and it turned sideways on me, got to looking and the 3 screws holding the breather elbow to the carb had backed all the way out and the only thing holding it on was the big tube from the engine and choke cable.. i also noticed that that tube catches air pulled in from the flywheel and that the flywheel fan is located right beside the left front tire so when the tire picks up dust and dirt the fan suckes it straight in and blows it on the engine.. since i use the horse mainly for dirt pushing and gardening i thought about pluging that hole for the breather tube and rerouting a hose up and away to the front of the tractor. does anyone see any thing wrong with this ? The engine gets really dusty when i use it and maybe this will cut down on part of the dust and dirt....
