5.0_2011 2 #1 Posted July 12, 2018 (edited) Planning on getting a B-81 horse next weekend. Anything I need to be aware of or look for and are these good reliable tractors? Thanks Edited July 12, 2018 by 5.0_2011
posifour11 723 #2 Posted July 12, 2018 (edited) The B-80/81 are my favorites. Just check the oil status, engine and transmission. Drive it in all gears, etc. Maybe the charging system. Good luck with it! Edited to add- build a bigger shed/barn. You'll need it. 😀 Edited July 12, 2018 by posifour11 To give a warning on storage space... ebinmaine 63,342 #3 Posted July 12, 2018 The B & C Series in general are very good reliable solid tractors. Just give it the once-over, twice, just like anything else you would buy. Parts availability is fantastic for those. That's a 30 plus year old tractor so keep in mind that the electrical grounds may need cleaning. Not a big deal. Easy stuff to fix. Many of us have a certain routine that we follow when we acquire a new horse. Change the oil in the engine, transmission. Clean it up in general with a pressure washer or Degreaser or whatever. Change all of the fuel line. Very likely you should take apart the carburetor and give it a cleaning as well. Good luck and keep us posted and if you have any questions when you are looking at it... Post them. There's quite a few of us here on and off throughout the day so you may get an answer in just a few minutes.
953 nut 51,970 #4 Posted July 12, 2018 Here are a couple of manuals that should help out. There are few issues to watch out for, if it runs and drives well in all gears and looks well maintained it should give you a lifetime of service. 1
