fritz 1 #1 Posted March 6, 2009 Well I have had a few bad days lately. So me and my freind decided to go on a drive. We found this guy that had 22 Wheel Horses, a Cub Cadet 105, and a John Deere 110. This guy had 3 Charger 12. 2 B 100, 2 312's. 2 Raider 10. 1 500 Special. a Round hood. a Lawn Ranger. And Many more. Plus he had alot of frames. He was a Bit pricey. I dont have the money now. AAnd he wasnt for sure about selling any of them except for the john deere. but in a year or two if he still has that 500 Special would that be something to get?? past7971 0 #2 Posted March 6, 2009 I believe most would think a 500 Special is desirable because of its uniqueness. As far as what its worth..........as always, depends on condition and what it means to you. Any TRUE ballpark figure is hard to say without knowing what it looks like, mechanical issues, or if it includes any attachments. Also, make sure it still has ID tag to ensure it is a true 500 Special and not something decalled or thrown together. Model ID = 1-3631 and should have engine H60-75118H. Good luck. sorekiwi 761 #4 Posted March 7, 2009 There were apparently about 2500 "500" specials made Fritz, so they arent exactly rare, especially in Indiana and the surrounding states. You do see them come up for sale fairly regularly. I wanted one mainly because I work on Indycars and I've been at the speedway for (too many!) Indy 500's. To be honest the tractor is a bit of a dog - cheapened down model, recoil start, Tecumseh powered. But I still wanted one! Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
fritz 1 #5 Posted March 7, 2009 I got a 500 Specail. It isnt the one I was looking at. But I think it was used at the Track!!! It has the bar on it that I think was used to push cars with. I like it. But it is very rough !!! I know where the other one is and I might go get it becouse it didnt have the hood. And the one I got today does have the hood. Also what does the 6 mean?? Couse the one that I saw thursday didnt have a 6. But the one I got today does?? Well If any one has an engine for one please let me know. I am thinking about restoring it. clintonnut 126 #6 Posted March 7, 2009 The 6 means 6 hp. You have an early one if I'm not mistaken. The later 500 specials had no 6 on the hoodstand sticker. If I'm not mistaken. The 500 Specials weren't used at the track, they were only commemorative of Wheel Horse's long time involvement with the Indy 500. Chargers with white walls were used at the track in 1968. And yes... the 6 stands for 6HP, some tractors had the 6, some did not.... a difference between the early and later runs of the tractors. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

I built a bolt on "push-bar" for the front of a L-157 Lawn-Ranger I put together for my kids that I thought looked like it belonged there. Enjoyed looking at your Lawn Ranger with the extra foot stirrups. You sent me some info on how you did that when I mentioned that our little one couldn't reach the pedals.
