formariz 12,041 #1 Posted March 6, 2009 I just picked up a spare K161 which came with the ignition coil attached. I was thinking about just firing it up just to see if it will do so, when I noticed that the points and condenser wiring go to the positive terminal on the coil, while the battery wire goes to the negative terminal. Everything I ever researched shows that it should be the reverse including the present wiring on my 753. Now, it looks like it has been wired this way all the time since there is no evidence of it having been changed by looking at the connections. The engine looks pretty new like it really has not been used much, perhaps it could not start this way? Any thoughts and advise greatly appreciated as always. kj4kicks 154 #2 Posted March 6, 2009 Hi Cas, Switch them around. Somebody got it wrong. Maybe they sold it because it didn't run right?
pfrederi 18,642 #3 Posted March 6, 2009 Maybe the PO was an old Farmer. Many older tractors had positive grounds. The motor should work that way so long as the battery was hooked up correctly for POS ground. (The Positive terminal goes to ground the negative terminal to the starter and ignition switch) I do not know how the voltage regulator would like it however!!!
