ronscat 2 #1 Posted March 6, 2009 Guys, do any of you try to get these things going, or do you just try to trade them for a Wheel Horse? This one needs a motor rebuild or replacement, and a new clutch disc I believe. Looks to be in pretty fair shape though. What would you do with it? thanks, Ron
TJ 184 #2 Posted March 6, 2009 Looks like a nice tractor to me. I would fix it, and put her to work.

T-Mo-(Moderator) 4,610 #4 Posted March 6, 2009 If you were closer, I would trade you, but.... If I had it I would get it going - that's a real nice looking tractor. You could post it here: http://ihregistry.com/cgi-bin/discus/discus.cgi or here: http://www.ihcubcadet.com/cgi-bin/discus/discus.pl They're nice, solidly built tractors. Nice find.
MaineDad 87 #5 Posted March 6, 2009 The 122 is a great tractor and that one has all kinds of potential. If you can get it, go for it!
ronscat 2 #6 Posted March 6, 2009 I've owned the cub for 10 years. It came with a sickle mower on it. I ran it some and used the mower that I still have also. I didn't like the mower on it and took it off. The engine wasn't sounding good was why I parked it about 8 years ago. Ron
73-18 automatic 8 #7 Posted March 6, 2009 Awesome tractor I grew up with a 126 my grandfather had so I would fix it up and use it just my 2 cents

Ky Greg 0 #9 Posted March 6, 2009 Still have the sickle mower?
ronscat 2 #10 Posted March 6, 2009 Yep, still have the sickle mow - wish someone else had it. It's just sitting out in the open. I would be willing to trade for something if someone comes by. Ron
ronscat 2 #11 Posted March 6, 2009 Couple more items sitting out. Ron
CasualObserver 3,411 #12 Posted March 6, 2009 Hey Ron, what's the serial number on the CCO? Interesting color pattern. Too bad GA is so far away... I'd definitely do some trading for that sickle... and maybe the Original.
T-Mo-(Moderator) 4,610 #13 Posted March 6, 2009 I thought that looked like an CC Original. Hmm, Jason, are you thinking that one might have been one of the "testing" units?
CasualObserver 3,411 #14 Posted March 6, 2009 I thought that looked like an CC Original. Hmm, Jason, are you thinking that one might have been one of the "testing" units? No, I think if it was one of the "testing" units, it would have an hour meter on the left side of the dash tower, or at least a hole for one. I'm just curious as to how early that one is. ronscat 2 #15 Posted March 6, 2009 Hey guys, sorry I posted the other pictures and have been over at my buddy's working on him a go-fast mower all day - a 40 cube v-twin on a little murray. I will trade for the sickle mo - make me an offer of what you got. I have the hood and grill, and I think the screen front for the 1962 Original. I had sandblasted it about 8 years ago. The primer I put on it (cheap Wallyworld) didn't hold up too good. I wish i still had the spindles for the front axle. Someone got them off the cub but they raised the front end up about 4 inches above center. Me and my grandson have used the cub for a paint rack for whenever we were painting different tractor parts is why the combo of colors are on it. The mo, original, and Bolens ride-a-matic need to leave my yard for cash or trade. Ron
ronscat 2 #16 Posted March 6, 2009 I found some more stuff that goes with the 62 Original:
Ky Greg 0 #17 Posted April 5, 2009 If your were sitting on the Cub Original, down on the right side of the transaxle a little aft of where the frame and tranny connect there will be a number stamped, this is the serial number....find that and I can tell you the month and year that the Cub rolled off the Louisville Works Assembly line. the number will be stamped vertically. :omg:
ronscat 2 #18 Posted April 6, 2009 I'll try to post that number tomorrow (if the weather allows). Thanks, Ron
ronscat 2 #19 Posted April 6, 2009 I "think" the info on the side of the tractor is: 351530-R7. (6 eye operations will tend to blur things a little - ).
CasualObserver 3,411 #20 Posted April 6, 2009 Ron... that's the casting or IH part number... check out this link for where the serial number will be. If it's been painted over, it will be very hard to read. http://cubfaq.com/serialnumbers.html
ronscat 2 #21 Posted April 6, 2009 Actually that number shows up real good - its 1745. Can anyone id that for me?
CasualObserver 3,411 #23 Posted April 6, 2009 Wow... that's very early... February 1961, second month of production. Sale production started in January 1961 at #590... so your's is just barely over the first 1000 units mark. Sounds like nice collector material to me. I'd put that puppy on ebay or list for sale on the IH forum.
Ky Greg 0 #24 Posted April 8, 2009 Ronscat, could you please post a picture of the back side of the front axle...(like you were sitting on the tractor looking forward) there were two different types of axles a thinner version (more desirable) and a thicker version that was stronger. Only a few of the very first originals had these before IH switched over to the thick axle. The difference is subtle and hard to explain without a picture. Very few of the thin axles survived as most were replaced over the years, but if you do have one and it's not broken it will bring a premium price from the collector/restorers.
