1961 Model 551 front rims

One of the front rims on a 1961 551 has rusted out, and needs replacement, so I figure to replace both. Are there aftermarket rims out there that are "plug and play" and available?

The RJ and 60/61Suburban from rims have a different length center spindle tube. The front spindles on these tractors are longer than later years. You can use a modern rim and a spacer bushing to make up the difference. 

 

You could also blast your rims and weld repair the holes or have a shop do it   I have welded a set and smoothed the pitted bead seat area with JB weld epoxy.  I have also blasted ang repaired small pin holes with just JB Weld with good success.  I believe A clean area with the texture profile from the blasting is the key to the JB Weld Epoxy holding  It time consuming, but these old rims can be saved unless there totally rusted away. 

If you decide to buy new rims I would be interested in seeing pictures of the rims and possible buying them.

Thanks. One of the rims (drivers side) is badly rusted to the point that the outer bead seal lip metal is missing on at least 75%, making it way to poor to refurbish. But if you can refurbish, we can talk off line.

 

What is the front shaft spindle diameter?  Or are the modern rims all the same and would simply slide onto the spindle with a spacer?

 

Any info on a particular rim and spacer that I would look for?

Back many years ago a replacement wheel barrow wheel was used. The center tube was too long so the bearing was removed and the tube was shortened to suit. Don't remember which tractor models but may be worth checking.

Spindle should be 3/4" diameter.
