rustytractornut 8 #1 Posted June 9, 2018 Hello does anyone know what the ''o'' on model 701 means. I know my 753 means ''7'' means 7 hp Kohler. ''5'' means electric start and ''3'' means 1963. Thank you.
T-Mo-(Moderator) 4,366 #2 Posted June 9, 2018 Usually, the "0" (zero) means that it's a recoil start tractor. But, that doesn't apply on all '60's models. For instance, both the 701 and 702 were electric start tractors, but the 551 and 552 were electric start tractors as well, while the 401 and 502 were recoil start tractors. It wasn't until 1963 that Wheel Horse got their "act" together and started using the "5" for all electric start tractors and "0" for recoil start tractors. Of course, they got away from this modeling scheme in the late 60s.
953 nut 52,487 #3 Posted June 9, 2018 When it comes to the there are exceptions to every rule. For example, the 953 was a 9.6 HP 9 electric start 5 built in '63 3; the 1054 was a 10 HP 10 electric start 5 built in '64 4; then in 1965 they were bringing out a new model with a 10 HP engine 10 electric start 5 built in '65 5 to be known as a 1055. but the 1054 was also being produced with slight modifications which according to the rules should have been a 1055; so it was named the 1054A As soon as you have figured out all the rules there will be an exception to trip you up!
T-Mo-(Moderator) 4,366 #4 Posted June 9, 2018 One rule that Wheel Horse did follow was this one, and that was not to follow any rules....
