mikeeyre74 289 #1 Posted April 7, 2018 I’m trying to hook up the old style PTO, on a non-original engine. I can see how there is a large bolt hole and a small bolt hole next to each other on the engine block and clearly the post that holds the PTO lever on the block goes in the larger one, but there is a small half moon cut out on the mounting base for the post. Is something supposed to go there? It seems like it would interfere with the engine pulley? This is the bolthole I am concerned about. It seems odd that the post is held down by only one bolt, and not any other kind of locator or another bolt?
pfrederi 18,714 #2 Posted April 7, 2018 (edited) Only one bolt. There should be a roll pin Correction SET SCREW in the small hole in the block the notch on the PTO pushes against it Kind of hard to see in the second picture hidden by the pulley . mikeeyre74 289 #3 Posted April 8, 2018 Set screw? Ok, I'll have to round one of those up then, as it's missing here. Thanks!
pfrederi 18,714 #4 Posted April 8, 2018 (edited) I have never pulled one to see the length. You only want the amount sticking out to be no more than the thickness of the PTO Plate. Edited April 8, 2018 by pfrederi
Pollack Pete 2,273 #5 Posted April 8, 2018 I like the old style PTO lever much more than the newer style.Less moving parts equals machinery that lasts longer.Speaking of lasting longer.......your rubber gloves are at the end of their useful life.Haha. A few years ago I made a comment on here when I had just joined up and said that I liked the old setup more than the new style and wanted to convert my B80 over to it... I pretty much got lambasted for that! 😝 but now I have a tractor that came with it, so now I can finally scratch that itch. But you're right, almost every lever operated PTO I've ever had has sloppy bushings that need to be gone through, because moving parts wear out. And that silly safety switch! Gah! Theres more gloves where that came from. I go through about ten per hour out there, playing around.
