zenarch 0 #1 Posted April 7, 2018 I have a 656 which blew the rear engine seal and soaked the drive belt in oil. It was an old belt and probably stretched but I fixed the seal and cleaned up the oil but the old belt slipped badly. I got a new belt #1576 from the V-Belt Guys online and the tractor now pulls fine but the clutch is not working. When I push the clutch pedal the belt goes slack but it still has enough grip to drive the transmission pulley and I can't get the tractor in gear. The only way to get the tractor in gear is to shut the engine down and restart it with my foot on the clutch. The belt will then be stopped and I can shift into gear. It will then pull fine, with no slip but when I press the clutch to change gears the belt just won't stop. What is supposed to stop the belt from turning? Is it drag on the belt guard?I can do pics if that would help. Zenarch
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,524 #2 Posted April 7, 2018 The belt guard must be on to support the belt when it is slack so the slack is available at the drive pulley. Otherwise it just hangs on the pulleys. There may also be taps or wire guides at the engine pulley. They should clear the belt by about 1/16" when the belt is tight. The sides of the belt must be covered with fabric. Raw rubber will not allow the belt to slip. Garry
