T-Mo-(Moderator) 4,610 #1 Posted February 27, 2009 As some here know, or care, I bought a Cub Cadet 104 a few weeks back. I thought it was time to add some more color to my collective collection of tractors. I had a few JDs, still have two, and had a few Wheel horses, still do - so I thought I'll add a Cub Cadet and I did. Well, the one I bought had a pretty rough deck, so I get an email from a Cub Cadet enthusiast who's about 40-50 miles south of me. Says I need to call John who's in Festus (about 25 miles to my north). So I do, and tell him I need a 42" deck for a 104. He's says sure, I have some. So.... I go to meet him near DeSoto, Missouri (about 10 miles closer to me than Festus) figuring he would have one with him. But he says "Follow me!". So, we leave the interstate and head north west on Mo. 110 and then turn left onto Upper Plattin Road. Now, 10 years ago I lived on Upper Plattin Road, so I know the area pretty well. We turn into a drive with no fence, but double gates and just a garage with no house. Now I know this place as it's only two miles from where I live when I lived on Upper Plattin Road, I just never knew who owned it or what. So.... We drive up near the garage and there behind it was a sea of yellow and white. About 20-30 CCs outside, some complete, some not. He leads me between the garage and a semi-trailer to a double wide carport. Inside it is about 5 Cub Cadets and both sides of the carport is lined with decks, about 4 or 5 deep or more. He's says pick one and we find a good looking 42" QA deck. Then he tells me the semi-trailer is full of parts and Cubs and then there's a couple of lean-to's that's also full of Cubs Cadets. We go into the garage, and amidst of another several Cub Cadets is a '64 Chevelle and mid-60's El Camino, both in excellent shape. Anyways, I found out later that he's known in the Cub Cadet world (and Big Mike should know this) as Junker John. He has no computer but has amassed a lot of Cubs. In fact, I'm told he has more at this house in Festus. So I know where to go for my Cub Cadet parts. Too bad there wasn't a place like this near me of Wheel Horses. T-Mo-(Moderator) 4,610 #2 Posted February 27, 2009 Oh, I almost forgot, this....his wife is as nuts as he is about Cub Cadets. She comments to me, "So you have a 104?" I say, yeah, and she says "We had several, and still have a couple." Then she asks "How many Cubs do you have?" I tell her this one is my first one. Which she replies, "I just love these things!" Now, how's that for a good wife. Not only does she know what a 104 is, but she loves the hobby. Plus, John tells me she has her own puller and she mows grass just as much as he does - in fact, they're out there together mowing grass. So, bottom line, if you want to start a collection of Wheel Horses, you better get your wife into them more than you are!
