Docwheelhorse 2,560 #1 Posted March 17, 2018 Good Afternoon, Picked this tractor up to replace the motor that is blown up. Belongs to a guy in my gun club... he says his dad bought it new. Its obviously a 1973 no name 8 4 speed... but check out the lawn ranger rear rims????? Are they really from the factory? Tony
pfrederi 17,147 #2 Posted March 17, 2018 Ranger rims were 8 inch but only had three lug holes. Can't make 3 into five like this pattern with out drilling and plugging.
Docwheelhorse 2,560 #3 Posted March 17, 2018 Yah... your right on the Ranger rims... but now Im wondering what the deal is. This has 20x8x10 rears and 15x6x8 fronts
elcamino/wheelhorse 9,062 #4 Posted March 17, 2018 The 1972 Commando 800 had the same rims if I am not mistaken . I know the rear rims were 10 inch and front rims were 6 inch.
dells68 7,494 #5 Posted March 17, 2018 Don't think anything is off. Pretty sure it came with those rims.
Racinbob 10,296 #6 Posted March 17, 2018 I'm thinking they came from the factory that way. Jim's spot on with the 72 Commando having 10's and 6's.

Docwheelhorse 2,560 #10 Posted March 18, 2018 Another interesting thing I noticed. The rear fender sticker appears to be the 1969? Thru 1972? version... I bet this tractor was thrown together late '72 for 1973 sale.
Elkskin's mower junkyard 1,117 #11 Posted March 18, 2018 that is how it came from factory. i got one for dad a couple years ago stuck a late k181s on it and found trans was bad. so in with a 8 speed lol. i upgraded tires all way around. then sold it earlier this year since dad past last year and it was just sitting. Retired Wrencher 4,880 #14 Posted March 21, 2018 Tony that is the way mine was. It was the first year after W/H sold out so they may be cut some corners. Do your axels stick out about 12" for the tranny housing?
