Rustyred 58 #1 Posted February 3, 2018 Hi all, We finally have our C-81 rebuilt.! It's been a long road. Big problem: it won't start. It appears that it is not pumping fuel. My question is: do I need to prime the system in any way? Or is it that my fuel pump is dysfunctional? Or is there something else I am not thinking of? I can see at the fuel filter that gas is not being pulled through. Your help is greatly appreciated. Rustyred
Joshn569 273 #2 Posted February 3, 2018 Maybe give it a couple shots of start fluid to get it running long enough to prime. If my c81 sits for a few weeks i have to do this to prime it again. And be on level ground.
rjg854 10,748 #3 Posted February 3, 2018 Is something blocking the fuel leaving the tank? Is the shutoff open? Start at the source and work it through.
953 nut 51,775 #4 Posted February 3, 2018 The tank shutoff valve is open isn't it? If you remove the fuel line at the inlet of the pump, place it in a can and pressurize the tank slightly it should begin flowing. Once there is flow you can attach it to the pump. They are better at pushing fuel than sucking.
