Did some maintenance on the 42" SD that I replaced with the 48" SD.    

New blades

New idler pulley

Scraped and wire brushed

Oil soak then store till next spring

Got the Bervac swapped onto 416. Also swapped rear hitch, larger wheels/tires from Workhorse. Still have a few more preventive maint items to get done. Got lift assist springs installed/adjusted & 150lbs of weight on hitch.

 

Now I gotta figure out what to do with the Workhorse. Be nice to have it for parts but dont really want it sitting around......

Did a diesel fuel flush and gear oil change on the 161 before installing the ARK for the first time. Lessons learned...black hoods are too wide to clear the hydraulic pump and a shaker plate calls for an inch or so shorter belt  It's always something.

Mowed the Fire Station and my lawn. Halfway through my lawn I broke a deck belt. Fortunately when the deck belt broke on the 312 it was at my house and not at the Fire Station. The 308 finished up the lawn, but that is needing attention as it REALLY doesn’t like running the PTO under load. It’s to the extent it starts sputtering, spitting black smoke and shutting off at idle. I’ve got that other running M12 if needed though.

Definitely worth repowering your Work Horse in that condition.   I have an engine here, but no good way to get it to you.  There are NOS engines on ebay.   Old Craftsman tractors may also yield a usable engine.

The Workhorse GT1800 we built for our friends had a Craftsman engine swapped in. Direct bolt 🔩 in replacement. 

Super common tractors too.

Been searching since Oct of last year for an engine w/no luck.....and yes looked for Craftsman engines too. Even tried to find a Kohler, Vanguard too. Im out a lot less $$, time, & aggravation with the 416. Was gonna part out 1848 but dont want a dead tractor sitting around. Probably just sell it cheap & hopefully with the 37" deck too. Just really want it out of the way. I live in town so space is limited

I installed new rear anti scalp rollers on my 42" SD deck.  No bushings needed in the new rollers, as they have a 1/2" bore.  Rounded edges on the rollers too - should cut down on the axial load on the snap rings that retain them.

Got the other 520H going and mounted 48” deck back on it, everything seems to be good. Mowed about 30/40 mins with it just to see if she was going go or blow. The ol girl ran good and strong never missed a beat, strong hydro. Mowing deck was leaving 2 streaks evey pass and I said self Ive seen this before , PO had 42” blades installed, if he thought it mowed good before he would really think it mows good after I put 48” blades on it . BTW put some wheel spacers on it, will show in a thread in restoration forum.
