 Battery was 11.6v yesterday when i bolted it on and before i mowed for about an hour. It barely started on that 11.6 but the voltage went up after it was running, so that’s all i needed to see. 
 

Just checked it. Battery was 11.9v with the key off and went up to 12.0v with some throttle after i started it. Not my favorite number, but it appears juice is going in and not out, so as long as it starts….but 12.0v probably isn’t the greatest for battery life. I think this has the small 10A stator.

That's definitely not enough.  

Static reading should be 12.45 or higher. 

Running reading should be more in the range of 13.5 to low 14s.

10 amp systems work just fine.  Have you load tested the battery??? Assume you have a good ground for the regulator have you checked your stator output AC voltage.

 I have not load tested it. I just bought a few weeks ago just for the raider and this is the first any charge has gone into the battery from the kohler. I did have a battery charger on it maybe 2 weeks ago to top it up because it was low from tinkering with the ignition and electrical. 
 

How is the stator AC checked and what can I expect to see? Connected at the regulator or open circuit AC?

Cart work with Morgan, the 14-8.  2 loads of firewood.  Fortunately, we got a break in the temperature and Canadian smoke today so I didn't sweat and choke too much.

 

Just enough work to get up to operating temperature so I could do an oil change on him.

 I put the battery on a 1 amp charger for a few hours while i replaced the front brakes and changed the oil on my car. With the battery at 12.7v, it would only hit 13.0v when throttled up, but it would hold that with the lights on. 
 

Test C open stator voltage was 21.2vac. I tried adding an extra ground from the battery to a mounting bolt of the regulator but it made no difference. 
 

It was getting late and i didn’t do test A correctly, but with B+ disconnected at the regulator and checking B+ terminal of the regulator and ground, i was seeing -2.4v, which didn’t make sense.

I've been hanging my grease gun in a spot that's low on the wall and keep an old rag under it. 

Best compromise I guess.  

 

I’m having a good chuckle here at the inherent contradiction of wanting grease to penetrate once applied to a bearing or joint but NOT to seep out of the grease gun! :hide:

Same applies to trying to constrain penetrant decanted into tiny bottles with needle nozzles or with threaded caps 😁
