Ive plowed 3 times Ed and no problems yet. I just hit the button real quick and it lifts about 3 inches. Which is what my manual lift did. It has the wireless remote. As soon as you let off the button it stops. Fingers crossed.

The steering on my GT-14 FEL I got from @fast88pu a few years ago at the Big Show was skipping teeth and unpredictable  I investigated and found the housing support for the steering shaft was broken. I have a parts GT-14 that had a good support on it so I "borrowed" it  Top one in picture is broken. Bottom one is the good one. It came off the donor easily but it's a tight fit getting it on the FEL tractor. I found the starter shield on the shroud is in the way. I started to remove it for better access and it won't come off  I removed all the bolts I found that held it on and it wiggles but won't pull off

Dummy me didn't realize I needed to remove the flywheel screen for it to come off  Got the new steering tower in place and started reassembling everything

Finished the fuel system today for testing purposes.  New pump lines filter.  Starts and runs well at full throttle still a little pop at idle but it is too cold out to spend much time fine tuning,.  Ran in all gears Hi/Lo. up and down the drive way (see snow on tires, there are no pics of the test run.  Ass't camera person doesn't come out when it is this cold ).  Really wondering about the one rear axle it sticks out just over an inch from the hub.  The hub is up against the tranny housing just like the other side.  Wonder if some PO replaced the axle with a longer one from a 6 spd and if so why???

Got some snow between yesterday and today. Decided to do one pass last night on our driveway. Then did final pass and did my plow account about 20 minutes ago.

A 6 or 8 speed transmission should have a good inch of axle shaft showing between the back of the hub and the transmission case.  

 

If the other side is flush to the outside of the hub AND touching the transmission case... that's the short axle. Not original.

Probably the original got chewed up at the bearing and the PO replaced with the wrong part. There are a bunch of different ones that can (obviously) be made to work. 

 

PO may have checked the Toro price and just used what he had instead- once he woke up and got up off the floor...

Did my civic duty today.  We are getting new neighbors across the road and I saw them struggling to clear the now packed snow from the driveway with plastic shovels.  I asked if I might help and then plowed it down to the tire tracks that I couldn't get under.  Turns out the father has a 416-8 ,with many attachments, that he might bring over when he gets the missing parts.  I just didn't want them to be unprepared for the possible big snow coming Sunday.

It's priceless to have neighbors who do things for each other. We've been lucky that way in our present location on a short dead-end road where almost everyone knows each other. We help each other out in far too many different ways to list here, and I hope that never changes.

Today I got the 414-8 ready to move the snow and sleet that is forecast for tonight and tomorrow. Have chains if needed and the rear tires are filled with rv antifreeze and have a mule drive weight bracket with twenty pounds. Hopefully all is ready. Be safe!

Finally put the snow blade on.  We got a good layer of ice here in Georgetown, Texas last night.  Blade just gliding on the top.  Maybe I'll try putting a wheel weight on the blade and see if that makes a difference.  Adjusted the angle and got a little bit of a bite but I I suppose it's a lot to ask for this little tractor to break through the ice.  Maybe I can try low gear with the heavy weight on the blade,  on my first attempt I was on high 1.

A little update to this; I saw the neighbor drop off an itty, bitty gas powered snowblower yesterday, I wish them well.  They haven't moved in yet so It will be a learning experience.  I may still be needed and will help if  wanted but with my surgery tomorrow I may not be able.

I just watched my neighbor pushing one of those tiny blowers. He made one path to the road then disappeared  into the garage.  His is one of the 7 driveways I usually plow.  I called all the neighbors that I had numbers for to let them know I will not be plowing until Monday morning.  It is sleeting here now and I want to keep all the ice on top of the snow so I can plow it off.

That is my basic plan but I may need to get started real early to see what works and get it cleared before time to leave.  I have the rubber scraper installed and didn't like what I saw, the previous owner apparently ran some hard weld on the bottom of the skids and that may mark the asphalt.  When one buys something on FBMP there may be issues even if it looks new, like this plow.

Update; it appeared that there won't be much more so I did my driveway and opened the one across the road enough that he can get two vehicles in.  This stuff didn't clog the snowblower at all but it really worked it, my gas gauge didn't even bounce when I came in.  I might do my driveway next door after the tractor thaws.

Some slight mod to the pump mount it goes right in existing holes.

Last night I replaced the transmission drive belt with what I believe is the proper one P/N 7473 on my 417-A. Today I took it out to blow the driveway and it worked fine for about 15 minutes. Then I heard a noise and knew something wasn’t right, so I headed back to the garage. I found the belt had jumped off the pulley and was wedged between the transmission and the pulley. I’ve never had this happen before? There’s two different part numbers given for that belt, I want to confirm this is the correct one?

  As I was investigating this problem my pager went off for a mutual aid fire call. This was in the height of the storm, to a neighboring department. A department that rarely calls for our help, stating a garage and multiple structures on fire. I am one of the senior members and truck drivers so I was the operator for this alarm. We actually had to follow the town snowplow to get there. The young man in the passenger seat got on the siren, so I yelled at him and said you idiot do you want me to pass him so we can get stuck and not get there? He apologized and I told him in this case slow and steady wins the race. We didn’t get done until dark so my driveway will have to wait until tomorrow, I wasn’t going to have trouble with the tractor in the dark with it still snowing and sleeting. 
 That’s me in the blue coat, I don’t wear turnout gear when I’m driving as I find those big clunky boots unsafe to drive with.
