I hitched Clyde the C-195 to the pontoon trailer today.  He was acting as a counter weight to keep the front of the trailer on the ground while I worked on the pontoon to prepare it to go into winter storage.

 

He fired right up today on the first or second cranking revolution.

I noticed that deck too.Thats one beefy looking deck seems to be built like a tank…Nice work .

Just a small job today. The plastic instrument panel cover/lens of the GT18 was a bit yellowed and cloudy to say the least. Here's how it looked before cleaning:

 

 

After about 30 minutes of rubbing compound, polish, wax...and elbow grease...it turned out pretty decent. Not quite as clear as glass, but not bad:

 

 

I do run out of elbow grease once in a while, but usually a hot shower, a favorite libation or two, and a good night's sleep replenishes the supply.

Had to do mid mowing repair on 654. Left hub broke while mowing. Of course it happened in middle of the wettest, muddiest spot in the back yard! Fun when I was trying to jack up & repair. Fortunately I had the parts in my stash.

Absolutely . Not near the work out as a manual. Next on list is trans shifter it is getting a little "frisky". I'm sure you have experienced what I'm talking about.

Gave a 867 a bath before the washer goes nighty nite for the winter.

Pullstart brought this over from MI and I know fer sure we overpaid. Was having seller's remorse from sending another one back to Shynon but I needed his tool box worse. 

 The crap was two inches thick on the motor & frame I kid you not. Spread the stuff out on the blacktop and walla ... seal coated.   Never even tried to start it but probably wouldn't have taken much. Head gasket is blown among many other things.

Nothing cobbled too bad that can't be reversed & strait sheet metal. good ags & orginal fronts in good shape. 

No sure what to do with it. Mechanical resto is right up my alley but missing lots of paint and don't think a touch up of rusty primer will do or look right.  

I've got a freshened up 181 shelf motor that is gonna go in it fer sure so partially dissembled it on the splash pad gut to get more crud off.

No never experienced that. I might have it bent a little much to clear the HY so taps on the seat pan abit. I don't think that is the orginal shifter CRS.

The fuel level gauge on my GT18 wasn’t working. The needle would peg all the way to full as soon as I switched the key on.

 

First, I checked the sending unit. I didn’t remove it from the tank, but the tank was still unmounted, so I was able to slosh the partially full tank back and forth and check the resistance changes to see if the sending unit was responding more or less like it should. There was no apparent problem with the sending unit, the wiring to the sending unit was in good shape (not shorted), and the gauge and sending unit were both getting the correct voltage, so that pretty much narrowed it down to the gauge itself.

 

OEM Toro fuel level gauges were $$$, so I found a universal-type replacement from Summit Racing with a 33-to-240 ohm resistance range at a fraction of the OEM gauge price. I had to substitute lugs for the original rubber three-socket connector and file down a plastic alignment tab behind the dashboard, but that was pretty easy, and it's working fine. The face of the gauge doesn't match the original, but it's the correct size and decent-looking (and it saved me about $150), so I can live with that.

 

A couple of the warning lights were out, so I replaced all four of those bulbs, figuring that if two of them had burned out, the other two were probably of the same vintage and might not be far behind. They're all working now (shown here with the engine off and two of the four warning lights on):

I pushed the C-141 out of the corner. Put in fresh gas, a battery, checked the tires and oil.

Had to prime it to get the gas up to the carb, without doing a lot of cranking. Thinking about installing an electric fuel pump.

Took it outside and started mulching leaves. May be a daily thing until they all drop. Or if it rains.

We are more prepared than we ever have been before. I have enough plows to set up at least four tractors. I also have the two stage snow blower. And the Ariens commercial walk behind.

Bunches of shovels. Even extra help this year. I'm hoping with all that, we just won't get any snow.

Test fit and ran this little 3k WH genny this morning.

Needs a little body work on the top cover but other then that it was complete and unmolested. 

 

It was a good find and runs good.

Yep, not a blowable snow for 10 years. So it's going to NE Ohio to take care of the snow coming off the lake.   Now I can plow the sloppy wet snows we get in the warm cab.

I changed out a seat on the workhorse from a Kubota seat to a Michigan style seat. The kubota seat angled down in the front to much. Tomorrow new points and condenser in the 416 snow machine.

Same here. We generally get less snow here in Brunswick than you do in Hiram, but I'm still voting for more rain and less snow. It seems that in the 18 years that we've lived in Maine, winters have been getting milder, particularly in coastal Maine as the warming Gulf of Maine surface temperatures tend to move the rain/snow line further inland. That said, I'm planning to attach my single-stage snow blower to one of the tractors, and we have "Mr. Case" (480E loader/backhoe) as a backup.

Absolutely no doubt about it. 

 

I've lived in SW Maine for 25 years. 

My parents,  now mom,  were/are still in north central MA. 

For the first 5 or 10 years I got more snow here. 

Then..... it changed. 

Over the last 5 or 10 they've had more snow in north central MA and surrounding areas than we do here.  

 

 

FYI....

Multiple outlets are forecasting a more traditional "Maine winter" this coming season.

I've thought the same but never got around to making one up.  

HF or other places sell cheap generator/ alternator heads. 

 

I have a front attach-o-matic mount for a GT14. 

If you can weld it could be modified to fit others.
