What have you done to your Wheel Horse today?

My 2015 Chev. Cruze is still on it's original battery.

Most of the batteries in my summer cars and all of my Wheel Horses are dated 2017.

I am sure that a big battery buying spree is coming.

Batteries love your cooler climate. On our plant industrial batteries they said over 77F starts reducing life.

Yep. We just went through that.  

Several batteries were dated 2019. We have at least a couple more 2020.

My 1974 and 1975 model year tractors have the larger battery box. A later model Group 35 fits in there fairly well with a small homemade spacer.

 

I have a salvage yard not too far away that's the last one anywhere around here willing to sell a used battery. Haven't bought one for a year or so. Last I knew they were about $25 to $40 depending on age.

Speakin' of batteries, my local recycler pays 5 cents a pound for lead batteries. What do you do with yours? I have  several 40#+  boat batteries along with tractor batteries and emergency light batteries. Probably 200# plus. Waiting for the price to go up.

I always keep a small one for a core if needed.. I'm an old Yankee and will get every nickle I can! LOL.

The guy we get our batteries from does not charge a core but he does get billed for one so I make sure we get our old ones back there.

In Michigan you get charged a $15 "core charge" on new batteries. Bring in the old one and no core charge... So old ones are worth $15 technically...

$14-16 core charge here.    I save my small batteries to trade in and save the big heavy ones for the scrapper that pays $0.15 / lb.

I buy Ever Starts from Wallys in Delaware so I don't have to pay the 6% PeeAaa sales tax.

 

Checked the one in my 2010 F-150.      This is the second battery in this 14 yo truck.   Could this one last for 9 years like the first one?

Sunny & in the 40's today, brought one of the C-81's into the shop, she fired right up, gotta love that REC fuel.

This one will be going to my son's new house this spring, she'll have new gear & engine oil, get greased up, sharp blades & a new mule knob.

So take this with a grain of salt.  

 

When I sold parts back in the 90s and early 2000s Johnson Controls made all AC Delco batteries. Also many other mainstream name brands.  

 

The AC Delco batteries and Wal-Mart batteries were the exact same thing. Different label.

East Penn Mfg is just East of me in Burks Co.      I just noticed they made that junk Dekol battery shown in my first pic.    I buy all old batterys at the auction for core charge or to sell to the scrapper.

Got the rat rod Suburban on ground & running. Still gotta get rear fenders installed. Got them outside weathering to match the hood rust/patina. Ended up clear coating the hood. 

 

Definitely want to lower it on the ground but that will have to wait till weather gets nice & I have more time. Theres a few other small things that need done. 

 

Unfortunately,  as I was pushing it outside to test drive I could hear noise in transmission as it was rolling. I bought transmission at big show last summer & was assured by seller it was good 🤥 

Not sure what I'll do now.......probably find another transmission I guess....

Not idler pulley. Transmission is binding up also when I roll it around.....

Three options for us: nearby recycler who pays very poorly, 30-mile-distant recycler who pays reasonably, county which pays nothing (they are doing you a favor by accepting them!)

A friend and I are planning a trip with the trailer to the reasonable place. My friend has about 40 that he’s accumulated over the years since his truck quit and he refuses to carry batteries in his nice car!

I flushed it out, drained it & it sat inside. I flushed it again couple weeks ago & topped it off. It wasn't bad either time I flushed it

Got yet another project. Could anyone tell me any info on it? I haven't gotten the time to get back up to the shop where It is to get the serial numbers. The guy I bought it off of said it has a Briggs n Stratton engine on it that's all original.
