What have you done to your Wheel Horse today?

Had a bit of a mishap when mowing alongside the pond, outside our abode last week. There's a big willow tree that I pass under and I push the hanging strands to one side as I do so. These are practically touching the ground and this time I didn't quite get things right. Some strands tangled round the stack and snapped off the silencer/muffler. Just above the clamp.

Went to a local tractor, quad, garden machinery outfit to see what they had. Only thing kind of suitable was a silencer/muffler for B&S 10 - 12hp engines.  Had to order it and I picked it up today.

It was made to screw into the head, but as can be imagined, the stub in the Kohler head was not going to budge. A little bit of measuring told me the existing pipe O.D. just above the bend, was slightly bigger than the new silencers.

So I cut the pipe just below the join and off to the farm workshop to borrow the ocy/acet and heat the end of the bent pipe up. Getting it red hot allowed me to screw the threaded end of the new silencer into it. Worked a treat and no welding was needed, as the fit was good and tight.

Fitted to the engine and we're back in business.

OH! The willow has had a bit of a trim as well. :D

You are lucky you didn't snap off the nipple in the block or worse loose a chunk of block.  Stacks look cool but are not very practical if you mow under trees.

Finally got around to mounting an electric fuel pump on my 2005 Classic. I went with a Mr. Gasket 42S and found a cozy spot for it under the tank. Hopefully this puts an end to the crank...crank...crank  after it's been sitting several days. :)

Checked the thee horses over and the Sears/Roper ready for loading tomorrow night. Got a charity ploughing match, come mini fair on Sunday. Hoping to get a bit of ploughing in with the Black Horse and the recently acquired 10" Brinly plough. I'll try to get some photos, but being on the organisation team things can get hectic.

Here’s the 500 special....

NOTE: these aren’t the rims or tires going on this tractor, my rims are still at the sand blaster guy.

Since the 500 special is at a stand still I jumped onto the 603....notice that someone bent twisted pried and eventually wrecked the sections of frame tower where the manual lift lever mounts

I bought a 704 frame for $10 at the big show this year with the intentions of doing what I did ...cutting it to make my 603 beautiful again.....my welder got a good use tonight ...I still have to grind the welds

Did this as well to the 603

the steering shaft was well pitted...filled it in with weld...I still have to grind it down..probably have to do a round #2 with the welder again but it’s going to be usable .....( the section i repaired it covered by the hood but I’m still going to try and make it look 98%)

If you want to replace the shaft it is just a piece of 3/4" steel round stock, any good hardware store will have it.

Where we’re going Marty, we don’t need roads!

My father and brother in-law joined me for a joy ride, before we jump on the motorcycles for a cruise.  We even found next year’s dinner hanging out back there!

Used my brother's  314-H (yes I know the hood says 314-8)   to cover the septic tank back up after a clean out.  It worked well with a 42 inch sbowplow/dozer blade.

We used the Honda 6522 with the Woods-DuAll backhoe to remove the soil over the septic tank.

Video of me covering the septic tank back up with dirt.

The steering wheel is so well “rusted” onto the shaft I’d never get it off....I thought of just getting a new shaft but did it this way.

Plowing season right around the corner...

Speaking of plowing...We had the stertz Farm day yesterday and it was a blast!

My uncle Bob in the orange shirt hosts it on his 160 acre farm.  His oldest son and my oldest cousin David (in the shorts) was helping him unload this wagon of grain. They are pitching the shocks into the Case threshing machine that my Great Grandpa bought brand new in 1939!

It was a sticky and still day but still a lot of fun.  Many times they burn up the straw left over but this year Bob decided to bale it.

The old 230 Case Baler was so awesome to listen to.  I hopped up on the wagon and loaded about a wagon full and it took me back to when I was a kid listening to this same machine working out in the fields!

Of course, for this to be a complete Farm Day, there needed to be some GT plowing.  It seems like a common theme but the area that we tried first didn’t plow well and we had about given up.  Then I found another area that was less “rock-like” and it plowed decent.  The guy in the gray shirt is Jeff (one of my IH buddies), and he made it out with his new bride and their little son. They watched me make a couple of passes on GhostRider and then Jeff asked if his wife could try. Here she is in the saddle for her very first time ever plowing.

She did a good job and enjoyed it so much that she actually took a couple of rounds.  Their little boy was just super excited with all the tractor activity and really  enjoyed watching his mom plowing and then riding on dad’s lap while he plowed.

All in all, it was another super fun Farm Day!

Speaking of Shynon and his 1054, my dad and mom went to a car show yesterday and so I brought dad’s Clyde (953) up to plow.  I am amazed at how well that tractor plows! I’ll put together a write up and some video clips in the plowing thread later...

CountryRock

Got the fender pan and new seat installed on the GT2500 today.  Then I took her for a drive around the neighborhood. Eventually I'll get all the tin repainted on her.

I’d say it’s more mellow than one might think, but still sounds good.  I put the baffle of a 750 Honda Shadow in it too.

Stripped the gas tank out for a good clean, gas tap gauze is missing so will fit a new one and new gas lines before the replacement carb arrives. Determined to get to sort the surging on my 416-8 sorted now I've read most of the posts on the subject 😊spacer.png
