Hello, new here and I hope I can stick around if I get this old wheel horse

I need to know if this mower is a good deal or not? It is a 1969 Wheel horse commando V8, comes with a plow (but plow does is not for the model) and a mower deck

just need a battery but has barely any rust when I went to look at it. Also the motor is not original (he put a B&S 8hp in it)

And he is asking $200firm for it, is that a good deal? Here are some pics also if any one has pics of the same mower I would love see one all fixed up!

and yes the guy has the back wheels on backwards

 clinton,,, it looks like a good deal if the motor runs ok, no smoke and weired noises, , why did he have the wheels on backward,???? looks like the RR might be rubbing the frame or something..otherwise looks good, i would say 200. would be good price if the above is checked out and appear ok,, and  again of course others will jump on here and advise you, people who own that particular model...

Hello and welcome !! I would have to first ask how long have you been looking and how much do you want it? A while back one of the members had a friend looking to buy his first wheelhorse and came up with a wish list ie what he wanted to use it for, attachments etc. I would do the same and then ask yourself if this one is good for you. As far as if it is a good deal or not my first reaction was not really simply because I just found a radier 10 (very similar to this one) with a 42 inch deck for $75.00. Like one of the other members said you will keep upgrading once you buy your first. Nothing is ever firm... offer him $150 and then if he says no then walk away... Usually the older machines will need fuel filters, points, spark plug carb cleaning etc... Add that in and then the cost to install these items (unless you can do it yourself) then add up the total cost and then look at tractors in the $400 range and you may be surprised what you find. Good luck-

ps- since that plow does not fit the tractor tell him to keep it and lower the price and/or figure you may be able to sell on ebay for about $50.00

Personally I think its to much money for a tractor with the wrong attachmets and the wrong engine.

I would keep looking, as a running tractor can be had for that kind of money all day. Go thru E-Bay and Craigslist in your area.

The hood is telling me it's a 69 But they Didn't have running boars on that model. Check the numbers under the dash. 1969 numbers are 1-4841. I would pass on this to rich for me. Besides something doesn't smell right. Just my .02

Here is my 69

I need to know if this mower is a good deal or not?

It's not.

That particular tractor is worth no more than $50 to $100 in its current condition.

The rear wheels are inside-out because they are incorrect 12" garden tractor pieces and would hit the gauge wheels on the deck if they were flipped.

The original rear wheels are 10" and replacement tires are hard to find and/or expensive.

$200 wouldn't be bad if it still had the KV-181 Kohler (good running condition) and the correct rear tires.

If you still decide to go after it, look closely at the boot/seal on the shifter. If it is bad or getting bad, leave the tractor there. The boot/seal (P/N 8002) is NLA from Toro and practically impossible to find elsewhere. Without a good boot, the transaxle oil will leak out of the shifter area and you can't stop it.

I think it should have 10" rims not the 12" thats on it. I wouldnt pay that kind of money for a vert. Might want to hold out for a garden tractor at that price.

One good use for the vert snow plow frame on that blade is to cut it up and build a mid mount grader blade for garden tractor.

 I have to agree with the others  since its has the wrong attachments and engine, i would look for something different  if you are looking for a garden tractor :dunno: this one will not suit your needs :omg: good luck with what ever you decide

Clinton,

first off,

Just to clarify a couple of points that have already been made:

This is a Lawn Tractor not a Garden Tractor. It has a vertical crankshaft engine (aka a "vert". It would be fine for mowing, but is not intended for more than that and pulling a small trailer.

The Garden Tractors have Horizontal crankhaft engines.

Glad to have you here. Keep looking and you will find a better deal.

Well thanks for all the info about this mower and the welcome! Well if I get this mower I plan on just mowing with it and hauling my wagon around with it. Also if I would get it I would probley strip off the paint and repaint it and clean the motor up for my senior project.

I guess I'm goiog to see about looking at it again and check the things you guys mentioned above. Because I really like the looks of this mower LOL. Also anthor question I have is if I were to restore this wheel horse how much would new stickers be for it, if they even remake the stickers?
