Help on ID

New here but love me some Wheel Horse.  I'm trying to determine the type of Wheel Horse my grandpa had.  I could ask my dad, but wanting to find one and surprise him.  I have this picture of it from 76 or 77.  Looking at pics i thought it might be a Raider 12, but could use some help.  Thanks!!

Is that a hydro motion control lever that I circled,  could be a Charger

If you don't have any other pics that you can find then guesses are the best you'll get. I agree with Paul that could be the black knob of a motion control lever there. I'd lean toward it being a 68 or 69 Charger. 9/10/12...take your pick based on what you can find.

:WRS:      Can't tell for sure but looks like it has running boards, what do you think?

It does have running boards.  I found another picture of it a few years later.  My dad used it to pull his 1276 one day.  All this research is getting me fired up to find one to fix up.

Great pics!  I really enjoy seeing vintage pics.  Good luck with your search and surprise presentation, it will certainly be worth the effort IMO!

Ok, again here's what I see....

top arrow points at black dot visible over hood, once again likely a motion control lever making this a hydro tractor.

short right arrow.. factory headlight panel

long left arrow... hood decal from 70-73 model tractors (likely replacements) and no visible gas tank sticking out beyond the dash.

long right arrow... Tecumseh powered tractor.

bottom arrow... no front mounted belt tensioner.

Add all this together, and I think this was a 1968 Charger  9 or Charger 10 with replaced hood decals (maybe even a whole replaced hood).

As with all things :wh:  Parts are so interchangeable between years/models that without complete documentation the best we can do is guess.

Good luck with finding and restoring one. I shall enjoy watching the story here!

Great observations!   I had been comparing these pics with other pics of tractors and the hood decal was throwing me off to make a positive ID, so like you mention, I think it's been changed.  If you notice the first pic the hood paint looks newer and brighter than the rest of the tractor, so my guess is the hood was changed out most likely at some point.  And possibly the original decals were discontinued at the time and they used what was currently available. :)
