A-90 Mower Drive Belt Rubbing

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I was given a Wheelhorse A-90 to make mowing my lawn a little more manageable.  The mower drive belt that was originally on it kept on falling off, so I had figured it was time to replace it.  I stopped in to my local Toro dealer and got belt part # 105477.  There is a noticeable difference between the width of the 2 belts (1/2in vs ~1/4in), with the original also being a little longer as well.

I thought I was able to get on easy enough without much trouble, but noticed the following things that probably aren't right:

-It rubs against the guard by the engine drive pulley.  the guard is appears to be all the way forward.  White smoke in this area while running.

-The mower deck is spinning even with the pto disengaged.

-There wear on the belt isn't flat, there appears to be a groove on the top (more wear in the center than on the sides, picture a water meniscus in a test tube).  could this have been caused by the brake?

Admittedly i am new to all of this, but based on what I've read I am not sure how these 3 things reconcile with one another.  Any help would be appreciated.

Some folks more knowledgeable about the "A" series should be along soon to help you out. You are in the right place for all things Wheel Horse...

By the way - these guys are gonna want pictures...

Thanks for the welcome.  Getting pictures shouldn't be too difficult for me.  I'd just need to know exactly what someone would need, and whether i should put a new belt on it for those photos.
