stephen turklay 0 #1 Posted July 21, 2017 (edited) Hey hope someone can help me here I have a 1998 520 XI that I had an unfortunate incident with where it just shut off as I was climbing a steep apex and was unable to stop it as it zoomed backward I jumped off and it ended up flying off a 5-foot embankment nose first after towing it back to garage everything seemed ok until something in the steering shaft either came of or sheered off I don't know what i"m looking for and the blueprints I have seen do not make sense there is a steel plate not sure if they call this a sector or not that the tie rod ends to attach to has pulled off the shaft, what is supposed to be on the shaft to hold this in place can anyone take a pic so I could see what is missing or would it be possible to just weld that shaft onto that tierod sector plate any help would greatly be appreciated. gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,522 #2 Posted July 21, 2017 Welcome to the forum. This service manual may shed so light on the problem Link to the parts list http://www.partstree.com/parts/toro/mowers-lawn-garden-tractor/73541-520xi-toro-520xi-garden-tractor-sn-8900001-8999999-1998/manual-steering-lower-assembly/ Looks like the weld failed between the shaft and the pitman arm. Perhaps you could have it rewelded if that is the case. Garry
shallowwatersailor 3,214 #3 Posted July 22, 2017 Here is a shot that I took in the garage tonight. I think that Garry is correct as all I see is a weld, but I can take a better shot tomorrow in the daylight.
