formariz 11,865 #1 Posted February 2, 2009 Noticed something interesting while striping RJ hood using electrolysis. Metal under decals is bright and shiny like it never had any paint at all. formariz 11,865 #3 Posted February 2, 2009 No it is absolute clean metal. Looks like there was not even primer. In contrast the metal under original paint was lightly rusted.Strange. Yes, I have to do a little bodywork. Some dents drilled holes and some pitting through where it attaches to frame along with the usual crack at the tank. Sarge 3,462 #4 Posted February 2, 2009 The only thing I can come up with is the steps involved in putting it through finishing . Maybe the original decal had an outside backer/cover layer that was later removed after painting ? Not sure why they would do that , other than speeding up the process and possibly using light heat to cure the paint/adhesive . I'd love to hear a direct explanation on that one though....
