Does anyone have a replacement bearing # for the axle ball bearings?

I believe the original is a NICE 7439.

I've looked reasonably hard and havent found an alternative yet. I'd like to though, I think they're around $50 apiece from Toro... :thumbs:

Toro made those bearings proprietary :thumbs::whistle::whistle: !!!

They have 1/4 inch balls in them so we usually take the bearings apart, replace the balls, polish the races and put them back together.

You can pick up 1/4 inch balls up from your local hardware store.

They are still available form Toro if they are the ones I am thinking of. I am rebuilding a Lawn Ranger and just did the rear end. The axle bearings were $70.00 each. Complete bearing set can still be ordered from Toro and will run you about $250.00 to $350.00.

Although propritery to Toro, I'm curcious now if there may not be a manufacturer IE Timken or one of the other manufacturers out there who makes one similar. Any one know?

Is the same bearing used in the later model C's ? If so, I plan to take one to a local distributor that has sourced some very odd and hard to find bearings for me in the past , maybe he can find something ...??

Regarding the Nice 7439 bearings....I have contacted two Bearing Supply houses and personally visited a third. The counter guy at the third found nothing on the computer then dragged out all sorts of old dusty books. Bottom line they are not available any where but from Toro

Motion Industries and others list bearings by size. If it is the same size is that okay? I don't think anything about the Nice bearing is special. In fact there is room for more balls in that race.

How do you take that bearing apart and put it back together?

Right now, I am checking with Napa. I'll post all my findings when I finish with this project.

I'm trying to remove the needle bearing 2-29 from the end of the input shaft 2-28. Any tips?

Napa's not going to have them... They're proprietary... in other words, you can only get them from Toro. Sorry... many, many people have tried before... They're made specifically for Toro, even if you can find out who currently manufactures them, you'll never be able to buy them outright. You may be able to find something close, but if you're bothering to tear into the case and replace the bearings, wouldn't you rather know they're the right parts with the right tolerances?

Just a heads up!

I ordered the bearings I need from my local Motion Industrys. I was informed that the bearing, part # 1532 = Torrington M18121, has been obsoleted out. They were able to call around and find it from another supplier. But I beleive that they will be getting harder to find. Unless of course you want to buy from Toro.

It's kind of embarrassing for me to post on here. It must seem that I am taking forever just rebuilding a simple trans.

I picked up my bearings from Motion Industries today. When I got home and checked my order, I found that one of the bearings was wrong and two others had the wrong bearings inside the boxs.

I hope I have this running by mowing season.

Finally! Got the right bearings today!

Below is the bearing numbers needed to rebuild a 4 speed Uni-Drive.

Toro# = Torrington# Number needed

1508 = B1212 - 2

1518 = BH108 - 1

1523 = B1210 - 1

1528 = B1616 - 2

1529 = M12121 - 1

1531 = M10121 - 1

1532 = M18121* - 2

* These are being phased out and difficult to find.

Torrington was purchased by Timken and eventually I look for these to all become scarce.

Also needed are two (2) ball bearings; Nice 7439.

These are only available from Toro.

I'm sorry! I found when assembling that the BH108 and M18121 are incorrect. Sorry if this affected anyone.
