Cody 277 #3 Posted February 2, 2009 Nice find it looks real straight. All of the gas tankes on my gt-14's have a spot that is melted a little but not completly through.

Teddy da Bear 11 #5 Posted February 2, 2009 Take the tank to a plastic welder. It is a specialized kind of trade. You can do it yourself as I have seen kits and welding rod at Harbor Freight. But I have a feeling it is the kind of thing you can mess up really easy.
KyBlue 655 #6 Posted February 2, 2009 Eastwood.com sells kits to weld plastic too...
WHC-125 4 #7 Posted February 2, 2009 What if I was to sand the spot down and JB weld it because I was told it doesnt leak but I want to fix it to make sure
KyBlue 655 #8 Posted February 2, 2009 I think Id Find a 2 part Epoxy made for plastic... rather than JB Weld.. by the way...Really clean looking starting point!!
Buzz 502 #9 Posted February 2, 2009 I think Id Find a 2 part Epoxy made for plastic... rather than JB Weld.. by the way...Really clean looking starting point!! I agree. Do a Google search for "plastic epoxy" and you'll be amazed on how many products are out there. It's a lot easier to repair it correctly now while it's apart. Keep your pictures coming. Teddy da Bear 11 #10 Posted February 2, 2009 I agree with 4star too. Just hope there is not some chemical reaction between 2 different materials. Perhaps you can try a small spot first to see if it works and is compatable. Until I got my second GT-14, I did not know the muffler heat shield was missing on the first one. I am not refering to the metal shield in between the tank and engine. My second one has a shield that separates the tank and the can-muffler. But I cannot speak for the 69 model year as mine are 70's.

CHARGER9AUTO 3 #16 Posted February 3, 2009 Hey Teddy You weren't the only GT16 owner, My Tri-GT is 16 hp also, plus I also have another 16 hp just a waitin' to get installed in a 69 GT14 See Ya Bye Burly :horseplay: :horseplay: :horseplay: :horseplay: :horseplay: :horseplay: :horseplay: Burly, I have my '69 GT-14 the correct 14 HP motor knocks I have another K-321 out of a Bronco 14 it ran when I took out of the tractor . or put the K-341 into the GT this Spring . Ben.....
Teddy da Bear 11 #17 Posted February 3, 2009 Burly I am still waiting for you to bring home that long promised FEL... And GT-14's were born with 4 legs.....that thing you got there must be an old farmall.. WHC-125....hey...at least somebody thinks of da Bear! I hope your 16hp kohler fits better than mine. Mine is the newer magnum series and p.o. "bent" the hood out to fit around the motor shroud. I think my frame or motor mounts could be slotted and the motor "shifted" over and the hood would fit properly then. Look before you leap when mounting that motor!
Brrly1 1,146 #18 Posted February 3, 2009 Patience is a virtue. At least thats what I have been told. Mom told me so its got to be true. John
WHC-125 4 #19 Posted February 3, 2009 Aren't 14 hp and 16 hp Kohler K series the same size just a different bore
Brrly1 1,146 #20 Posted February 3, 2009 Hey Chris, If you install a 16 hp in your GT I went directly back to the same mount holes as the 14 hp. You don't need to drill anything as far as I know. They are the same block, yes, K series. Post some more pictures as you go. Good Luck Burly :horseplay: :horseplay: :horseplay: :horseplay: :horseplay: :horseplay:
WheelHorse_of_course 99 #21 Posted February 3, 2009 Seal-all is gasoline resistant and works on metal gas tanks (my brother used to have a lot of old trucks and found this stuff really works). This is good stuff, it is sort of a industrial Duco cement!
WHC-125 4 #22 Posted February 3, 2009 I cant get the motor tonight because its snowing pretty bad and the guy that has it is about 30 minutes away So I am going to have to wait till the weekend Burly, Dont worry I will be posting alot of pics Rolf, It is a plastic gas tank that was melted
