Snow blower side plates

Recommended Posts

WheelHorse_of_course

I notice that the drift cutters on my blower are mounted such that at the very end the splay outward.

I think if they were flipped over they would be less likely to catch into hard snow, and also would reduce strain on the side of the blower (more on that later in my chain derailment thread).

The manuals I have show the older plates that don't have the bend at the end, so they offer no guidance.

I am going to switch mine side to side since it seems to meat at the very end, when ramming up against packed snow I want it to cut in perpendicular to the snow, not at an angle.

I also wonder about removing these entirely. Any thoughts.

Anyway, I am ready to try this sucker

More later

Yep, it sounds like yours are on backwards. I suppose if you remove them completely you'll just lose some snow clearing width since they serve no mechanical or structural integrity to the blower.

I took mine off. They just got in the way too often. Losing that extra inch or so of width didn't bother me at all. It also made it easier to blow in a straight line while in deep snow. Jim...
