dells68 7,499 #1 Posted June 13, 2017 First, mods please move this to the correct place if I'm wrong on where to put it. I desperately need some tires for the front of my 953. I've always thought the 4.00-8 tires a lot run look a little narrow. Well, I was on Miller Tire's website and found these. They are on sale for $5 each!!!! That's a 4.80-8 size. I know they are not the correct tread pattern, but at that price, who could pass them up? Says there may be some weather checking due to storage, but they'll definitely skunk the dry rotted leakers I have on there now. Just thought someone else might be interested if you need that size and don't mind the tread pattern.
T-Mo-(Moderator) 4,599 #2 Posted June 13, 2017 They're closeout specials, and due to the way they were stored, some deformation occurred, but Miler Tire says once inflated they will take the proper shape.
dells68 7,499 #3 Posted June 13, 2017 Personally, don't mind the way they are shaped due to storage. I've gotten tires shipped before that we're squished that inflated back to their original shape with a tube. These are tube type tires anyway. Don't think you could beat the price!!
RandyLittrell 3,899 #4 Posted June 13, 2017 I have had a few that was squished like that and I just put a tube in, aired up and let them sit in the sun. Fixed them right up. Randy

If a wider tire is what you're wanting, this won't do it. https://www.etrailer.com/question-73107.html
tims tractors 119 #6 Posted June 13, 2017 I bought 2 sets of these awhile back to use on something they said some might have slight cracking, none of mine had any. Pretty neat little tire for 5.
pfrederi 18,625 #7 Posted June 13, 2017 (edited) Many many years ago my Father and I took a tour of a General Motors Assembly Division (GMAD) plant. What an eye opener...Coming down the line a couple of Chevys then a Pontiac then an Olds or two and Buick then some more Chevy'. The didn't do Caddys at that plant. GMAD built all the cars in those days. Too stay on topic on a side line they were assembling wheel/tires. The tires were bundled in batches of 12 or so bound with steel strapping and flattened out more so than the pics above. The put them on the wheel and used something like what is now a bead cheatah. then they were round a fat. Edited June 13, 2017 by pfrederi
dells68 7,499 #8 Posted June 19, 2017 Well, got my $5 tires and got time to mount them. They are awesome! I just put tubes in them and laid them out in the sun on the sidewalk yesterday and pulled the tubes out this morning. They were almost completely back in shape. Mounted them and they filled out nicely. Think I'll order a couple more sets for future use!
stevebo-(Moderator) 8,527 #9 Posted June 19, 2017 I got a set of those for my boy's hot rod about this time last year. I had an issue with them dry cacking pretty bad. Miller did the right thing for me as a customer. I wonder if this is why they are having a fire sale on them? They are still usable for me since I put tubes in them but don't look great.

dells68 7,499 #12 Posted June 21, 2017 Didn't pay a bit of attention to that! Not worried though, just happy to have a good set on it, especially at $5 a pop

Personally, I like to run turfs with the three full lugs pointing forward, but I've seen Wheel Horse and Toro tractors come directly from the factory with them running both ways on the same tractor too, so I think they'll still work fine. They look good, hope they hold up. What brand are they?
dells68 7,499 #14 Posted June 21, 2017 So far, I like them. They are Monitor brand.
