CurtS 35 #1 Posted June 9, 2017 My latest project has been taking the front wheels off to get new front tires. My most important question is what to grease when I put the wheels back on. The only zerk fitting I see is on the inside of the wheel. I greased this until grease came out of inside part of the axle. Concerned though that I need to do more to cover the other side (outside) of the axle and wheel bearings. When I took the wheels off the cotter pin, washer, and outside of the axle was completely covered in grease. Not sure how to grease this side. Do I put grease on the axle itself when the wheel is off?
dells68 7,498 #2 Posted June 9, 2017 Hey Curt. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable than me will be along this afternoon, but I believe the grease will fill the cavity inside the hub and grease both sides of your wheel. Being a little bit of OCD person, I always rub a little grease on the spindle then hit the zerk after I put the wheel back on.
benji756 341 #3 Posted June 9, 2017 When I put new front tires on mine I removed the bearings from the rims and flushed out the old grease and repacked them with new grease.
