C-125 Front Wheel Bearings

Recommended Posts

future

I am in need of new front wheel bearings on my C-125. I emailed around a dozen suppliers around the USA (couldn't find anyone in the UK who was likely to stock) and only one replied. They asked me for the part number from the parts manual which I don't have. Can anyone tell me where I could buy new bearings? The VIN is 01-12K803-24514.

Also, one front wheel is held on the axle using a split pin through the shaft and the other seems to have a groove cut out on the shaft to accept a large circlip. One side or the other must have been modified. What is the best thing to do when putting the wheels back on - just put back as was (new split pin and new circlip)?

Thank you

Ian

These wheel bearings are pretty common in the USA and you can get them from anywhere (here) for $5 to $16.  The cheaper ones are made with a drawn shell, the more expensive use solid billet which is machined.  I always buy double sealed (meaning sealed both sides) bearings and get rid of the zerk grease fitting in the wheel hub.  If you buy sealed one side like the original WH bearings and you pump in too much grease, you can push out the outer seal and now water can get in.  Make a note when you remove the old bearings that if they pop out too easy, the new ones may not stay in the wheel-meaning you should look for another wheel.  Also, if the bearings are shot, there are likely grooves worn in the spindle, that maybe is why you have two different ones.

To answer your question, yes, put the wheels back on with a new split pin (a cotter pin here in the US).  You can probably use the same circlip-I do.  Make sure you have enough thrust shim washers to get a tight fit on the axle.

Finally the bearings I use are Heim RF122214PP  (these are sealed both sides) and machined from billet.

Thank you Garry and Doc724. How certain are you that Heim 122214PP will fit my Wheelhorse? My worry is that I pay money and wait for a product that does not fit. If you are confident that it will fit can you recommend a website that would send to the UK?

Thank again

Ian
