rwilson 128 #4 Posted January 30, 2009 Would be a neat project, but I'm not sure it looks good. I would have to change alot of things. Is that home built or is it a production tractor?
linen beige 15 #5 Posted January 30, 2009 Is that home built or is it a production tractor? I'm leaning towards production. Seems I recall seeing similar machines advertised a few years ago. Notice the machine on the left in the first photo. http://www.albrechtauction.net/cgi-bin/mna...brecht/20080626
Nick 13 #6 Posted January 30, 2009 Yep those were suddenly the big new idea for a while and several companies had similar models. Cub cadet/MTD is one still trying to peddle the idea but use a steering wheel and the front wheels are not just casters now. Hood looks like something off a snowmobile? T-Mo-(Moderator) 4,610 #7 Posted January 30, 2009 Would be a neat project, but I'm not sure it looks good. I would have to change alot of things. Is that home built or is it a production tractor? Those were in production in the late 90's to early 2000. I saw one or two at Tractor Supply. Not too impressive. As it's been mentioned, MTD has experimented with this concept for some time now. JD also made one a few years back, the SST series, which was a lot better quality and conceived than MTD's. MTD's latest, as Nick linked to, is the Cub Cadet iSeries. The iSeries is an interesting design, and well conceived and executed. But it has way too much plastic on it, plastic hood, plastic fender deck, etc.
Nick 13 #8 Posted January 30, 2009 A local cub dealer has been advertising the Iseries on tv for a while now. They do look like a step up from the older Z-tractor models but not sure Id pay the price to find out. It didnt have the zero turn look of the front engine tractors but in 89 and 90 Toro sold the rear engine models HMR1200 and HMR1600. They had two 5 speed transmissions and individual brakes that tied into the steering. When the wheels were turned short it applied the inside brake to help spin the mower around. Fairly impressive rear engine rider with the 16hp Onan and a 52 deck. I looked at them in 90 then went with a 616Z instead. Always wanted to try one so when I saw a 1200 at an auction in 07 I brought it home for a test run. It wasnt adjusted just right but did turn short. Unique mower if everything works as it should. chesbaycruiser 83 #9 Posted January 30, 2009 Man-o-man....that is UUUGGGGG-LY. This is my personal answer to the tractor vs. ZTR dilemma.... OK...so it's not really a dilemma at all. Overkill, maybe? I don't know, but they're both a hoot to drive! Chris --- Mechanicsville, VA

T-Mo-(Moderator) 4,610 #12 Posted February 1, 2009 the add says its manufactured by white another lawn tractor company i have seen sold at tractor suply. White was another company bought up by MTD. I'm not sure if MTD is still making White tractors, but they were a few years ago and that was a MTD designed White shown in the AD

fritz 1 #14 Posted February 6, 2009 A White is what i got started on. I worked for it. Took it home blew the engine. My bestfreind gave me another engine. We put it in, took it and sold it the same day for 250. Then I bought a craftsman and traded that for a Wheel HorD200. So I owe white alot of thanks. But i still love my Wheel Horses alot more than my white. I have had two whites they seem like decent little MTDs. By the way this is for my report but what does MTD stand for and when i go to there site will it show all the companys it owns?
