jonw440 196 #1 Posted May 16, 2017 My oil sentry switch is bad in my 314-8 1993. I know this because I changed the oil yesterday and when the oil had drained, I turned the key on and the low oil light did not come on.(the light will come on if I push the test lights button on the dash) Is there a way to power the hour meter without the oil sentry circuit? MalMac 1,332 #2 Posted May 16, 2017 I am not sure on the wiring but I will tell you those sentry's have a bad habit of coming apart and pieces of plastic go through out the motor. If you drain your oil and see some blue or green bits that's a good indication that the sending unit has disintegrated. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,499 #3 Posted May 16, 2017 A quick look at the wiring diagram indicates the hourmeter is just powered from the ignition switch - not controlled by the low oil switch. There is regular maintenance scheduled for the low oil switch and special instructions on how to remove the switch without damaging it. Garry 2 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Oh ok, I thought it picked the power from the oil sentry circuit so the meter wouldn't turn with just the key on and the motor not running. It sounds like I need a new meter. Thanks for the reply! midpack 1,011 #5 Posted May 16, 2017 I have a Magnum 12 that wouldn't start because of the low oil switch. i removed the wire from the engine harness plug and taped it off. reading the switch service, it sounds like it's to clean metal shavings that could cause it not to work, not that it would need regular replacement?
