bork 0 #1 Posted January 28, 2009 My 1st post. This site has me all excited for my dad's 1057. He passed away approx 7 years ago. the WH has been in Fl under pole barn awaile, as he bought a newer mower. less tinkering on the old WH deck problems. So I said, " keep the old WH 1057 for me to tinker with." Well here I am. I'm keeping an eye out for a plow blade. Is there any other brands that come close or were made byWH that use a different name? found a guy selling a simplicity 42" for $50. He said 11" between rails. Are there dimensions out there someone could give me, so I can know what I'm looking for? Do I need to bolt some kinda of attachment to the rear axle, to bolt the long plow frame to? I see in pic gallery of a u bolt clamp a thingy. Some guy on ebay has some kinda brckets , he makes & sells for ? Should I get them? Heck I just looked for them& couldn't find them.(wanted to post the link) Is it best to get original stuff or can I make shift things, or will it come back to haunt me later? There is some kind of female slot receiver, behind axle now, & goes up & down with tall lever on left of mower. also front tires go flat within a day. haven't suds tested them yet, but think they are seeping at bead. should I put slim in? Sorry for the rambling on-long post.
Duff 206 #2 Posted January 28, 2009 Bork, ! Glad you found us and please make yourself at home! I'm not well enough acquainted with the 1057's to make any recommendations except that from what I've read here they are, like all Wheel Horses, a fine tractor and well worth rebuilding/restoration. Some of the members with more experience and expertise should be along in a while to help you out. In the meantime, poke around the forum - there's a ton of useful info here! Your post says the tractor has been in a pole shed for a few years in Florida. Where do you hail from nowadays? Oh, by the way........ Best wishes, Duff
kpinnc 14,573 #3 Posted January 28, 2009 Can't answer the Simplicity question, but there are plenty of WH blades out there. You should have no problems finding them, nor in fixing what ails your 1057 mower deck with all the folks here helping. Post plenty of pics. Kevin
Old Iron 0 #4 Posted January 28, 2009  Another 1057!!  Make sure you post some pictures. You'll be sure of a correct fit if you stay with WH attachments, but it is up to you on the route you want to take, restoration or just take her out and work. ol550 830 #5 Posted January 28, 2009 Bork, The 1057 is a great start to an addiction. If you have the 42" deck the idler support can be a real pain. Seems like they get a little loose in the joints and then that fatefull turn and it breaks. If your not in a Wheel Horse populated area just about anything can be modified for a blade. I have a box store JD blade on one that took a few hours to fit up. Beats rusting up a good WH one. Just enjoy and ask questions. :horseplay: Mike
Teddy da Bear 11 #6 Posted January 28, 2009 I am using a Bolenz blade (in my avitar). And it is mounted to a wheel horse "A" frame (mid seventies) for a typical wheel horse blade. I only had to modify it by drilling two holes in the reinforcing ribs to provide the correct pitch for the blade. I plan on drilling more holes as I need to in different grading applications. Hopeflully "Illinilefttackle" (Al) will come along and tell you about his blade on his C-125. I remember it was a wards or sears...or something like that. He modified it for his use. Glad you could join us!
jerrell 1 #7 Posted January 28, 2009  Hello Bork and welcome to RS, didn't catch where you are located but if you are in the central part or NE part of US, there will many blades up for auction and from members here, go to our Classified section, or search feature , you can always count on getting good parts from members, and you will need the quick attachment that hooks to the rear axel if i am not mistaken, ,,the lever you mentioned is used to raise it, i'm not familiar with the 1057
illinilefttackle 399 #8 Posted January 29, 2009  Here I am! Right on que! My blade is a 42" from Jacobsen. I bought it for 25 bucks. The only mods I had to make was weld a couple brackets on the existing arm going rearward from the plow. I just hooked it into the two holes in the Plate in front of the transmission with two bolts. I then just used a piece of chain to hook the mower deck lift arm to the blade arm. Works like a charm-I did come up with a moving brace hanging from the mid-mount tach-matic to take a little of the side-wards motion of the blade. Just ran a piece of twine over the hood hooked to a bolt with a spring on it, to pull up when I want to angle the blade-oh yea I fabbed a arm to push pull the angle of the blade- AL
Teddy da Bear 11 #9 Posted January 29, 2009 Twine? Twine friend Al? I tried to look that up on the Toro site... What part number again? p.s.......See? I was right! Jacobsen! note to self: (edit previous post before anyone notices.)
illinilefttackle 399 #10 Posted January 29, 2009  Teddy: As you can see, I'm a scrounger,(I've been called worse) The Twine came from my Dads old Gill nets he used to catch Cisco (spelling) in Lagrange Co. Nylon, very strong, but more important it won't scratch the Horse. In this picture, you can see another of my "cheap" parts. Notice the Orange round object near the mount for the angling arm for the plow. It's one of my grandsons arm bands (you know the cycling guy-cancer I think) Before-when my blade would trip, the arm would go flying "up-up and away" Not now-it works great!-AL
rwilson 128 #11 Posted January 29, 2009 I am using a craftsman blade. (freebie) I went down to me local WH dealer and measured an A frame and bult one to work with the blade. It works nice for what I need it to do.
WHC-125 4 #12 Posted January 29, 2009 A buddy of mine had modified craftsman blade on his C-125 that was too light for getting down to the pavement. So I sold him a plow for this winter and it just sits. I am gonna stop over their somtime and see if he would sell it
