chesbaycruiser 83 #1 Posted January 27, 2009  Any "expert" input would be appreciated.... I have a 1975 B-80 (4 Speed) and was considering getting a blade to clear my (and a few neighbors) driveway -- assuming that the gods of snow someday come back to Richmond, VA from where ever the hell they've been hiding the last few years. Anyway, I was looking around on E-bay and found some possibilities, including this one: E-bay Item # 370149797546 I wonder:
TT-(Moderator) 1,162 #2 Posted January 27, 2009 The one at Dave Brown's "tractor world" that you have linked to from eBay is exactly the blade you would need, but you would also need the Attach-Matic hitch that bolts to the rear axle housings. IPL image of hitch: There's a huge possibility the the short frame blades from the mid to late 60's would also work fine on the B-80 4 speed since the wheelbase is only 2" longer than that of the short frame models. There might be some clearance issues when fully angled, but you could always extend the A frame a little to compensate.
Lane Ranger 11,394 #3 Posted January 27, 2009 Chris: I have a very similar snowplow on my B-80 (mine is a Model 66-42BC01 - see toro.com for parts and drawing). The EBAY listing you have posted does not seem to show the "lift hanger" part that atttached by cotter pins to the underside lift of the B-80 and the rear transaxle connector -so you can life the snowplow with your lift handle on the left side of the B-80. You could probably use a link of chain but the actual lift part would be better. Also you will need the rear transaxle attachment that connects to the rear rod on the A-frame and lifts up and locks into place at the rear of the transaxle. Here is a photo of my right side - underneath the tractor of the life and a-frame hook-up with the handle hook-up for the pivoting of the fron of the plow: http://i728.photobucket.com/albums/ww284/L...04/100_2036.jpg Here is a photo of the B-80 where you can see the plow on the tractor and the front blade pivot handle: http://i728.photobucket.com/albums/ww284/L...04/100_2025.jpg Here is a photo of an A-frame (an older one) tht shows the fron (without snowplade on it and the center lift area: http://i728.photobucket.com/albums/ww284/L...04/100_2030.jpg Attach-A-Matic that TT mentions is shown at rear of tractor and holding up A-Frame rod in this photo: http://i728.photobucket.com/albums/ww284/L...04/100_2194.jpg I think the 42 blade operates very well and chains on the rear (lawn) tires do help with traction. I think you will find you will want to do a few neighbors drives every time you get the opportunity!

chesbaycruiser 83 #5 Posted January 28, 2009 TT & Lane Ranger, Thanks for all the great input....exactly the type of info I was looking for! OldandRed, I think you're probably safe....I'm pretty sure we're livin' in a snow-free zone! (Of course, just like this morning, it didn't keep them from closing schools!) I think Richmond must be some climatologist's dream example of global warming or something! Chris
KyBlue 655 #6 Posted January 28, 2009 Lane Ranger: You dont have to use the specific WH piece. A Chain would work, I used a hunk cut off a old universal muffler hanger...you know with the evenly spaced holes in it. Works like a charm. thou Making sure its the same length as the OE piece is probably more important than what its made out of (Thou strength is a issue)
Lane Ranger 11,394 #7 Posted January 28, 2009 4StarCstms: Yes I think chain has its advantages. I know my dad has used it for years on the old 1054 he has. I think the B-80 has several options depending on the a-frame you have. Like TT mentioned some of the a-frames have the center hanging set up about six inches in a different location (I forget if it is shorter or longer) but a chain would work on that great!
