520LXI has coolant in oil?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

New here to the forums and looking for some tips on a 520LXI  with the FD620D Kawasaki. It was dropped off at my shop with the oil pan full off coolant.  I have done little with it yet but did notice the water pump is internally driven and possibly a source? Maybe head gaskets??  Wondering if there is a known problem area or I just need to get into it and figure it out?

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forum.

Don't see anything in the service bulletins we have.

Have a service manual?

This was the only 5xi model with that particular engine, and I am not sure how many are out there. Maybe a 5xi owner with that particular model may have some information. The same engine was used in a number of JD machines so a JD forum may be able to help. Sorry!

Thanks much for the service manual link and the information. This is an extremely well kept (pampered actually)  tractor with 60" deck and only 300 hours. Definitely worth putting some time and money in.

I would lean to a head gasket,  does it have an oil cooler where coolant could get into the oil that way?     Never had one of these.

Can you chek the water pump easier?  Time ages water pump seals more then hours.
