slammer302 2,156 #1 Posted May 8, 2017 I just bought a 520xi 925hrs 20hp Kohler 60" deck. I've noticed the front crankshaft seal is leaking. I was wanting to know if anyone has any tips on replacing. Is it just the standard pick the old one out and install new one or am I missing something here? Thanks
SPINJIM 1,986 #2 Posted May 8, 2017 If you go onto U-tube, you'll find some good instructional videos on replacing your crank shaft seals. Good tips: Drill a whole in the old seal, and insert a screw to grip onto to pull the old seal. Don't go after it with a pick that might scratch up the seal housing. Make sure that the lip of the seal (where it presses against the shaft) does not get folded back when you start to insert the new seal. Start the seal carefully by hand, then use a piece of PVC pipe to tap the seal in evenly. Put light grease on the new seal to help it slide in. Good luck, Jim
