eibbed 63 #1 Posted January 25, 2009 Gentlemen, I got this mower deck on a 1960 Suburban. I have never seen one quite like it. It is locked up and while some of it is rusty, other parts of it are quite salvagable. Out of curiosity, I am hoping that someone will be able to tell if it is original WH or something else. I also have a plow that was given to me and I would appreciate your comments on it too. My new friend Sparky is going to post the pictures I emailed to him. Thanks again, Dave
bell 11 #2 Posted January 25, 2009 If the deck looks homemade and it was on a 1960 Suburban... It is probably original. They were VERY primitive looking decks.

(which broke all of the links) I'll see if I can get some pictures back in the gallery - if I can find them again.

eibbed 63 #6 Posted January 25, 2009 Bell, It does look homemade. In fact when I first saw it I thought someone had beefed it up with what looks like approximately 3" X 3" X 1/4" angles on both sides. What really has me baffled are the toro wheels on each side. You'll see what I mean once Sparky has time to post the pictures I emailed him. ol550 830 #7 Posted January 26, 2009 The deck is original off a 1960. But the angle irons an wheels are not. The '60 deck mounted to the frame and was lifted by the angle piece in the rear hitch by a rod at the rear of the deck. It also had no wheels just skids on both sides. Mine was the first one in the garage this fall, so a picture would be nearly imposible to get. The plow looks to be fabbed up. eibbed 63 #8 Posted January 26, 2009 Thanks Mike, I wasn't sure if I had a rare mower deck or one that had been modified. Now I know. I know the angle iron bolted to the plow is an add on. I could be mistaken, but the rest looks pretty original to me.Does anyone know if it is a Wheelhorse, Brinley, etc.? It does have red paint on it, so I'm hoping it is a Wheelhorse plow. We got about 3/4" of powder snow yesterday and the forecast is calling for 3" to 5" of sleet and snow mix starting this afternoon. Yes! Dave In O'Fallon, IL, just 15 miles east of St. Louis, MO
qd-16 14 #9 Posted January 26, 2009 The plow strongly resembles a Midland, Simplicity, or Montgomery Wards two wheel walk behind tractor plow. The hitch gives it away! Probably could be converted to a wheel horse.
eibbed 63 #10 Posted January 29, 2009 Gentlemen, If anyone can use any of the parts off of the deck, they are yours if you pay the cost of shipping. I have no use for it and don't have the room to store it. Just let me know. I'm going to post the plow for sale on Craigs List today and keep my eye out for a wheelhorse plow. Thanks for all your help. Dave
