Old Iron 0 #1 Posted January 25, 2009 Is this back rest an after market piece, or is it a Wheel Horse accessory?
BPjunk 184 #2 Posted January 25, 2009 It's a Wheel Horse part. Wild Bill in Richmond, Va.
Kelly 1,033 #3 Posted January 25, 2009 I'm sure you know the seat is not orig. at least to that tractor. those back rest are getting hard to find.
Old Iron 0 #4 Posted January 25, 2009 I'm sure you know the seat is not orig. at least to that tractor. those back rest are getting hard to find. I was wondering about the seat. It looks similar to the picture on the owners manual that came with the tractor, but I wasn't sure if it should match the back rest. What would the original have looked like?
jusjeepn 59 #5 Posted January 26, 2009 I need a closer look at you seat to be able to tell if it is original or not. The picture you posted looks very similar to the seat that came with my 69 Electro. the seat back is definately Wheel Horse but was meant to go on the square pan seat. Like you've been told, it is a rare valuable piece. I had one on my 753 but didn't realize the value until it was already gone. If you can, get a better (closer) pic of your seat. Kelly 1,033 #6 Posted January 26, 2009 67 tractors would have used a metal pan that looks like it was made on a box break, and would have upper and lower pads. I'll get a pic tonight after work
Kelly 1,033 #7 Posted January 26, 2009 Here's Perrys 67 and heres my 68 same seat it's off a 67 tractor
Old Iron 0 #8 Posted January 26, 2009 Well, I guess my next question is, how available are the original seats? I'll have my eyes open at swap meets and flea markets, but how much should I expect to pay for a decent, useable one?
Kelly 1,033 #9 Posted January 26, 2009 Good luck finding a nice one and if it's real nice get your wallet out, unless they don't know what they have, I found one at the junk yard that matched almost perfect, not sure what it was on, but I bought it for $1 ebay is not the place to get them they sell for big money. jusjeepn 59 #10 Posted January 27, 2009 Cool! Thanks Kelly! I'm learning more and more every day. The seat you show, was it the next style after the black with white insert? My 1055 I used to have had the black and white seat. I have a 1046 here that belongs to DMESS and it has the black and white seat. my old 1077 had a had a black seat like your's. My 68 Electro (at DMESS's house) has one like yours. My 69 has a different one yet! Seems they only used that black seat for 2 years. And the seat on the 69 for only one year. My 70 Electro has the style used for several years with the adjustable rear pad, some pans painted red some black. Just my observation.
Kelly 1,033 #11 Posted January 27, 2009 Sorry for the bad pic's but I was shivering This seat is on a 857 this is the seat on my 1968 Electro 12, also the same seat is on my 69 work horse 700 This seat is on my 1969 Charger 10, this seat has a fiberglass pan, not metal This seat is for my 1970 Raider 12 I hope this helps, and the white centered seats started in 1965 and used in 66 also, Not sure but I think the Lawn rangers used them later than that, but I'm not sure
